New F31 - service pack worth it?
Finally got my 335D after a 5 month wait, and pre tax increase too. Very pleased with it, looks great in EBII.
Simple question really, the old service pack was a no brainer but is the new one worth it if I do 17k miles a year? |

Get it chucked in, walk away from car and say you will sign for the car if its added?
Most people seem to do this. |

Not an option, was bought outright through a company scheme, all paid for now. I suppose it comes down to how much the first service costs because if it is £400 anyway I may as well get the pack and if I squeeze in the second service then it's a bonus.

1st service is around 20k and 2nd around 35k so all depends on cost.

If you only manage a single service it is not worth it. If you are assured of the second service then it is.
The thing is it's less about the number of miles you do but more about how you do them. If you do 17k a year and it's largely motorway based then you might end up with a 20k service interval - in which case you'll only get a single service carried out. If your 17k is almost entirely stop/start in town driving then you'll comfortably get in 2 services as your service interval might drop as low as 12-15k. The new service pack is not suited to high mileage drivers at all. BMW know how many miles cars put on between services and I reckon the 36k limit is just short of the average - call me cynical but this is a money making exercse for them not a saving exercise for the consumer. The old 5yr/60k pack always allowed for 3 services and at least 1 brake fluid change for the vast majority of drivers. The 5yr/50k effectively dropped it to 2 services and maybe a brake fluid change if you'd managed to keep the mileage below 50k at the end of 3 years. The 3yr/36k pack effectively drops this to 1 garanteed service and pretty much no brake fluid changes. |

I ordered my 330d at the end of Dec and added Service Pack at the time which was 5 years. My dealer stated BMW would honour it even though I took delivery in March. They did so if you initially indicated on your order a Service Plan may be worth pushing

I had no idea when I ordered it that the service inclusive terms would change so didn't order it at the time.
My miles are half cross country and half town. I've got 60 days to decide so will see what the service indicator says after a month or so of my typical journeys and then make my mind up. |

I didn't at the time either. The dealer was also unaware. BMW kept it quiet and it was only when I was flicking through the website in early Jan that I noticed terms had changed. Had there only been a 3 year option I would not have taken it on 12k miles a year
