BMW Satnav junction alerts
I am so used to using Google Maps for navigation that it has set my expectations of a Sat Nav system quite high! I am struggling to get on with the BMW nav (62 plate F31) but due to recent UK legislation want to use it rather than my phone.
Going to pay out the £120 for a years Online subscription which will at least let me use Google Send to Car (or the BMW app) to input destinations. One issue that I have is the alert for up-coming motorway slip-roads/junctions and such... is there any way to increase the distance at which it alerts you of the change? There has been a couple of times when in the 3rd lane overtaking a middle lane hogger and suddenly get an alert that I have to come off at the next junction without much notice, forcing me to get into that lane quickly! |

On motorways my iDrive satnav gives a warning 2 miles in advance of an exit manoeuvre.
Is yours not doing the same ?

The display in my dashboard (black panel) offers navigation information. This counts down the distance to your next change.
As above, when I get closer a bar displays here and on the split screen mode of the iDrive. I recently converted from TomTom on iOS to ProMedia. Once you get it working as you want it, it's a good overall package.

BMW or any car manufacturer for that matter cannot come close to the UI experience that Apple and Google can provide - I mean thats all they do, right.
A car nav is years in production and already years behind when the car is launched. I used apple carplay a few days back and the difference is huge. BMW et al should just let Apple and Google design their UI. |

the one reasons i can think manufactures might want to stick to theirs is the product control

Been testing it along the A27 down south... it appears to only warn me of junctions 250-300 yards before the turning. I think it does show on the black panel first and then very shortly after flashes up (far too late, I think) on the screen.
Unsure if a maps upgrade will fix it, but loathed to pay 60-70 quid for something that my phone does brilliantly...! |
