Curbed Alloy
So this morning on the way to work I managed to curb my alloy trying to get past some stupid lorry that hadn't parked properly
Can anyone recommend a decent place to get it refurbished? I've got the 442 m sport 19" diamond cut alloys and I'm based in Watford. Cheers. |

Also if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost you? I tried phoning them but no one was available to talk so I am waiting for a call back. Last edited by Hoyboy; 03-31-2017 at 04:31 AM.. |

They had the car for a couple of days as they did several wheels and they strip back, repaint and re-finish the whole wheel so several coats have to dry. My cost wouldn't be relevant as the Mrs works there so I got a special rate .

Funny you mentioned that. My mate at work said he used them for the alloys on his Golf R and they look as good as new. He paid £90 + VAT which is a lot more reasonable. I'll give them a call and see what they say.

I have used them twice for two sets of exchange alloys. The powder coated ones are still going strong 4 years after the exchange. Sold my other set when parting with car. Father in law had his jag wheels refurbished. Four bent wheels straightened, all curb damage repaired, powder coated, fitted, balanced, £390 inc VAT

You could have ago at repairing that yourself with some wet/dry, metal Polish and then topping of with few layers of clear lacquer surely? Got to be worth a try!?

That looks fine on a smart repair as it is minor. As for 2 hours. You'd be lucky. They are always busy so guaranteed to go over. You're better off going for the one day turn around if you can to allow them extra time. It will be worth it though.
Do not attempt to repair it yourself. You need proper lacquer that runs in the region of £100-150 for a tiny bottle. It is like aerospace grade and applied to bare metal surfaces like diamond cut. Too much and you lose the finished look and too little you suffer from 'white worm.' Secondly, you'd have to get the cut just right so it doesn't look obvious. To that the wheel will go onto a diamond cut lathe. A small part of the damage is removed. You can only repair these diamond cut wheels 2-3 times before they cannot be cut further. So now is your chance to get the whole wheel done if there is damage on the inside or requires straightening. They will highlight any damage to you when they take the wheel off. |

Lepsons of Gillingham, Kent are very good. I know it's a trip from Watford but I travel 50 miles, but it's worth it.
For 18" wheels, silver chrome about £120 inc VAT. |

I wouldn't re cut them if I were you. Either live with it or try a smart repair as the damage is not huge and the wheels will be weakened by recutting. Wait till you have a few more or till the white worm starts making an appearance

Yes, diamond cutting removes material from the face and rim of the wheel hence weakening it. That's why you're only allowed to re cut them 2-3 times max, if that.

I was going use these guys once for my old civic alloys once, but got a sweet deal for some new aftermarkets so never got to use them at the end.
http://www.diamondalloys.co.uk They are based in Northolt, quite near to you so just drive by there and check out their work. |
