Re: the reverse whine. Honestly, most cars I've owned have a bit of gear whine in reverse. Depends on how bad it is. Maybe post a video? Anyway, take it back to the dealer ASAP and tell them to check it out. That's why you got CPO! |

Agree with others, reverse whine is kinda normal for many cars and the 60mph is usually just wheel inbalance. Should be very easy for BMW to sort out wheel imbalance.

Read the link, the car is new to you so its kinda hard not to overthink things. BTW reverse whine is due to the way the gears mesh when reversing. If you ever played with straight cut gears the whine is part of the deal, yet makes physically changing the actual gearing within the trans easy during service/track optimization.

You have little to worry about. You have a CPO car. Vibration is an easy fix and will be free to you. Reverse sounds normal but again it will be a free repair if there is anything wrong with your tranny. Relax, make an appointment and reserve a loaner car and enjoy a day in a different bmw.

The reverse whine isn't very loud compared to other cars like hondas. It is due to the gear teeth in reverse being straight cut vs curved which has less friction and therefore less noise and is ideal for forward gears that get more use and at higher speeds so you want less friction for noise and less wear.

His point was why is he having issues after only 50miles. I get it..I bought a 2012 X3 CPO'd and found out after that it had 2 stripped lugnut holes (one on each side ) in the front wheels. One of the 130+ pts it has to pass to be CPO'd is 'torque lug nuts'. Well, it failed in my book and should have been caught at the dealer during certification. Another member had a rear suspension piece break within a week or 2. You can't put blind faith on the CPO certification advertised. Proof positive here, so the OP being concerned is valid.

CPO or not, your car is 3-years old with unknown prior ownership quality. So expect some potential issues.
I hear differing experiences on CPO car quality. Adjust your expectations accordingly. That's why you pay extra for CPO. |
