Negative battery terminal near engine for 440i?

Hello,

Does anyone have a clue about where exactly negative battery terminal is in 440i. I did check owners manual, but didnt give much info. It shows aid-terminals connected in front neae washer fluid but not sure.

Look on the right in the trunk, there's a panel that holds some crap that can be removed, it's under that

Do you actually need the negative terminal, or just a ground to attach a jumper cable to? If it's the latter, just clamp to a bolt or strut in the engine bay; there's probably a bolt marked for it near the positive terminal.

There is a positive battery terminal under the hood and a negative post attached to the frame on the left side. You hook up jumper cables to these posts when jumping.

Open trunk, on passenger side near rear of car is the battery location. Simply remove any panels or cargo tray like items and you should see the battery. edit: look under the recessed storage compartment

Then you need to disconnect the battery in the trunk. You just need to disconnect the negative terminal.

on the last picture under the bonnet, or hood, the positive terminal (which you already found) is under the red cap and the negative I believe it the bolt with a brown wire running of it.

Question is the OP trying to work on the electrical system that the needed to unplug the battery, then he need to go the trunk to disconnect the battery.

If the OP just want to jump the car or charge the battery, he can do that in the post located in the engine bay.

We don't know what he (OP) trying to do.

If OP hasn't found negative terminal in 3+ years since he posted question, he'll never find it now.

Since he hasn't been on forum since 2018, he probably gave up and sold car

I'm not sure why this was resurrected, but OP clearly wants to disconnect the battery to install some electrical components.

In case someone lands on this in a search, here is where to access the battery. Remember folks, always disconnect the cable from the negative terminal, not the positive terminal.

To kill power, yes, it's in the trunk. Do Not disconnect the positive terminal first. Always, on any car, disconnect the negative terminal. That way, if your wrench touches metal, you won't cause a short.

Here is your engine bay photo. I highlighted the Positive and Negative terminals for jump starting (NOT for disconnecting power!) Note that if you're ever working on one of these engines and you remove the plastic cover over the Red terminal in the engine, cover it with a cloth while you're working, so that you don't accidentally cause a short.

Guess you missed this is a 3 year old thread. In any case, I wish I'd read your tip before using a metal rod to remove leaves under the +terminal. I did get a spark, but fortunately, my car lived through it.
