Impressions on ECU GSR tune for n20 engine (228i,328i,428i)

Hey everyone!

I recently got an ECU tune by the GSR Technik company based in Cali, and it is just amazing. In fact, I used to have jb4 and bms stage 1 tunes, but this is definitely on another level.

I can not be more happy with it, the car just feels so much more alive and aggressive. I loved the tune so much I actually made a video on it, initial impression included:

If anyone had any experience with these guys please share it down below!

I think someone else got this for their M40 X4 and really liked it, but I could be mistaking it for another tune. Heard good things.

I'm running the Active Autowerke tune and enjoying it while I lease. Been thinking of buying this out at lease end though, and if so, would be interested in this approach. Thanks for the review!

Nice, how expensive was Active Autowerke tune? And how do you like the wagon? Does it feel heavy?

I think it still retails for about $700, but I found mine through a vendor here for, I think, $600? Maybe $650.

I love the wagon to pieces. No, it feels just like the sedan. I was lucky enough to drive them almost back to back (although they were optioned differently), and I couldn't feel the difference as hard as I tried. Maybe on track, at the limit you would notice it, but I highly doubt it even then.

Weight isn't really it's issue. The real place it loses out is not getting a RWD, manual option. As such, you absolutely have to get the electronic damped suspension (unless you plan to go third party full suspension), and ideally, some lowering springs.

Interesting, do they come with xdrive only? As I remember xdrive uses like 40/60 split between axles, and even still the adaptive suspension is required?

Yup, US F31 is xDrive only. Yup, it's 60/40 rear/fwd split by default, and absolutely, yes adaptive M suspension is required! Good memory.

Welcome to the club . Matt and Bobby @ GSR are awesome. I had them do a mild tune on mine; output went from 228/230rwhp //255tq to 250hp/317tq. I may go back to have Matt ramp it up a little more just for kicks but I want to get another dyno session during cooler weather to get a better idea of output.

Nice. I ended with very similar numbers on my '16 N20 6MT - 262whp/311wtq - with the BPC flash tune.

I need to re-dyno it..it was 100 degrees during the 10 pulls I had, plus tons of heat soak. I'm tempted to bump it enough to hit 260-270rwhp and call it a day . Car is starting to pick up a bit of power with more miles. It finally hit 12K miles (after almost 2 yrs) and I think it's just starting to hit it's stride..

hey guys,

Where can I can get this GSR tune?
Their website www.gsrautosport.com looks a bit weird.... not sure what's up with it?

What other good options are there for a stage 2 flash tune for the N20 motor?

thanks !

I have the GSR stage 1 tune as well. Had it for the past 2 years or so and car has been awesome with no problems.

Calcarnut recently reached out to Matt. His company is now HD Tuning but he can be reached at jailbreaktuning@gmail.com I believe.

Also here are a couple posts I reviewed my tune:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1182331

and another one after he re flashed my car since the dealer overwrote it during a service visit: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1303313

Thanks I've sent them an email,

did you upload the tune yourself via OBD2 or you had to send the ECU to them to flash?

BPC seem to be decent as well so I'm considering all atm...

I mailed in my ECU both times. They flashed and Fedexed it back to me. Pretty quick turnaround actually. I vaguely remember mailing it out on a Monday morning and getting it back Wednesday morning.
