BMW E90 Halogen Angel Eyes
Hi All
Looking to upgrade my yellow halogen angel eyes on my 2010 E90 LCI. Have been researching quite a bit on here and I have found these CREE 80W bulbs. Has anyone had any experience with these? There are also the 40w version however I am assuming these will be better and brighter given the double power output? Your view are appreciated. Replacing OE AE bulbs is a double edged sword, the brilliant white light will look great at dusk and in the dark, a huge improvement, yet will be all but invisible during the day time. The yellow OE bulbs are a lot more visible during the day.
I fitted 20w in a 2010 LCI when the LED conversions first came out, but then swapped them for 40w because I wanted much brighter AE. Unfortunately, brighter LEDs did not translate into brighter AE, they seem to get to a certain level and then don't get any brighter regardless of what you do, so I think you'll find that the 80w look hardly any different to the 40w, but if you ever need to leave them on as parking lights you'll have a flat battery in no time. |

I got some 40w ones from ebay, they look good enough as DRL's.
I wouldn't bother with either of those, the 4 LED strip will not be as effective as 2 bigger LED's as the Halogen rings are baisically 2 strips of clear plastic in each headlight that the light run through, almost like fibre optics. I got these ones: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2914402605...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

HIDs on a standard parabolic (open reflector) Halogen headlight will be blinding for oncoming traffic, will fail an MOT and will get you pulled over by traffic police. I tried some very briefly in my E46 and they were bad. Bright, white, but antisocial. I even tried the bulbs with glare shields (a strip of metal along the bulb to stop stray light) but they weren't much better.
Better to just go with some better halogen bulbs. People rave about Nightbreakers, but there are a few good brands out there. I had some Bosch high power H7's in a previous car & they were good. |
