Midpipe with Stock or Aftermarket Exhaust?

Hello All,

I am new to these modifications. I have a 440i (B58) leased. I was wondering if installing just a midpipe with stock exhaust would increase much HP and sound? Or just go with new exhaust and midpipe together? Has anyone experienced this?

You don't buy an exhaust for power, you buy it for sound. Exhausts (catback and axleback) are EXPENSIVE. I'd try a midpipe/resonator with the stock exhaust and see how you like it. If you want more/deeper sound than get an exhaust.

I believe exhaust do increase a bit of HP as well. Yes, I will try midpipe first!

I have a 340i lease coming with Mperf Exhaust (not Mppsk)
If it isn't loud enough I will add a AWE midpipe which is basically a resonator delete.
This will not improve HP in anyway to my knowledge but just pure sound improvement.
Here is a youtube clip of a Awe midpipe paired with stock

Wow that sounds great! Thanks for the clip. Also, Not to sound stupid, but when installing AWE midpipe, is cut/welding required? Not just bolt-ons right? I've never done this before.

I believe you have to cut at the "dimple" for the exhaust but is easily reversible back for lease return.
From what ive read its quite quick and painless
I would confirm with Josh in the below thread for detailed instructions. They will assist u

Okay thanks bud. Bro what you think of VRSF catless downpipe compared to just midpipe with a stock exhaust? How much of sound difference? I believe downpipe installation would be a bolt on.

Just go dinan or M performance then you can return as is if you want. Why put an AWE midpipe when you'll have to take it off. A midpipe is pretty much a midpipe and Dinan is actually a couple bucks cheaper and BMW approved.

Agree. An even cheaper route is to have a reputable muffler shop build you a midpipe setup for (probably) half the cost of even the Dinan pipes.

I got quotes from several shops and $400 is the cheapest I could get in good quality stainless steal. A few of the people said that Dinans are priced pretty well especially with free shipping

Midpipe will not increase power, it will increase sound even on stock exhaust

Catback exhaust (midpipe + rear section) will always sound better

OP, the stock exhaust will come off as a whole. It would be better (at least IMO) to get an entire configuration so you don't have to cut the stock system and worry about that when it comes time to turn it in.

Not to revive a dead thread, but could you point me to a guide for how to do this? And how is it reversible, when we are cutting parts off?

I deleted both my resonator and mid muffler on my 340i. Noticable sound increase, cheap too.
