Name That Tune!
I'm thinking of putting a tune on the F23. Just to warm it up a bit. I don't track it. And am not upgrading anything. I did all that with my E93. I've narrowed it down to two choices.
1. Dinan stage 1. Increase of 38hp and 59tq. Total 364/438 Cost is $2,059 2. Dinantronics sport. Increase of 30hp and 40tq. Total 356/420. If I did that I would spring for the dinan exhaust. I don't hate the M235 exhaust but I wouldn't mind something more aggressive. Cost is $1,700 The sport tune doesn't carry the dinan warranty. I don't want to go the jb4 route. Im focused on these two ideas. Labor on both is probably $200. Tax is negliable. Which option creams your Twinkie most? |

I would go with option 1. If you want more power later you could pay the difference in price between the stage 1 and stage 2.
If you would consider the sport tune without the warranty you really wouldn't go JB4? My F23 has JB4 and even map 1 makes a nice difference.

Stage 1 for sure. Better performance and warranty versus sounds better w no real gains from exhaust and no warranty.

Curious why not the JB4? I've been starting to consider tunes, and that seems to be such a popular suggestion, with so much room to improve later. But not wanting to relight the flame war that so often ensues around this....just looking for input.

Burger has a similar tune to the Dinan Sport, but it's $100 less because it doesn't have the Bluetooth-connection capability for changing boost levels. Both are adjustable, both have no warranty. My F23 is a 228i and I'd probably just go for the Sport or JB1. On my F30 335i, though, I'd really be tempted to go for the more advanced tune, although I already have MPPK. The Sport/JB1 would stack on top of that because it only uses the TMAP sensor to raise boost. The Dinan S1 on top of MPPK does have slightly more HP and TQ than on a non-MPPK car, but not equal to the 20 HP gain from the MWG MPPK.

I plan to keep the car for a while. I like the idea of having the dinan with the warranty while the car has one and knowing the engineering that went in to it. I just want to warm up the engine. I don't plan any other mods

If you're only gonna go stage 1 then I'd actually go exhaust and sport cat for close to similar numbers and better sound.

Just get a JB Stage 1. It's the best bang for the buck on the market and only plugs in 2 spots. Takes like 5minutes to install and uninstall. As long as you take it off before taking it to the dealer, there's nothing to worry about and no evidence of it ever being there.
There's no point in the Dinan sport tune, it's a waste of money. The only reason to get Dinan Stage 1 is if you don't want to bother with removing and installing something every time you go to the dealer. |

jb+, only 200$ and adds enough to make you smile. 30whp.
You can install and take off in less than 2 mins. set it to +4 (all the way) and good to go. The dinan sport has an app, which you will never use, and is 100$ more. When that doesn't keep you happy, get a sport catted downpipe. 15whp Get a little more sport sound and a great bump in power. Do this instead of a muffler. As far as exhaust and intake, save your money. They do nothing for power gains. Buy a drop in filter and keep existing air box. Add 3 gal of e85 to your full tank once summer starts.

I think the most intriguing thing about the Dinan staged tunes is their improved driveability, far less CELs, and consistent power over the cheaper, but slightly more powerful options, like JB4. You constantly read about about inconsistent power, CELs, etc. with JB4s. The Dinantronics systems, while still hooking into similar sensors, reads far more data to help keep that power consistent in all conditions. I'm willing to pay a lot more for that and the warranty doesn't hurt either.

Lol. Why are people recommending burger tuning. The dude said no.
I really don't see why not go Dinan stage 2. The intake and exhaust are not required. You can use the Bluetooth app to set to stage 1. That being said. I'll upgrade to jb4 when my warranty is up.
