2nd Problem with my 340i at 15k miles

OK - not really a B58-specific complaint, but putting it here because I put the other problem here.

Got my oil changed (and had them do a pressure test on the coolant system) last week.

Got in my car on the first warm day 2 days later, and now the Air Conditioning won't blow cool air.

2 problems so far on a new car, which is 2 more problems than I had with my Toyotas, Subarus, and Hyundai.

Service visit next week. My wife is already starting with the jokes about my fancy German car...

Oh..it's fine. Don't you know? We take our cars in for a defect once a month. I go to the dealer each month and they said I should work there.

I had the same ac problem, (covered under factory warranty), over the summer. It was due to a sensor issue that the dealer told me they have seen in several F30s. A month ago both horns failed,...this one was not covered by the dealer or BMW USA, since the car was a whopping ten days out of factory warranty by year,(only 27,000 miles but it's a 2013). Third party warranty picked up the majority of the $900 repair, (they also replaced my steering wheel as the heating element was failing on one side), but I still had a $300 deductible.

I love many things about the F30, but I too am getting the jokes from the girlfriend with the 300,000 mile, no issues, Honda Accord. I justify the BMWs by saying hey, they are BMWs, and the feedback I get from driving those cars, especially the E46 can't be attained with a Honda. Honestly though, that Honda has come to my rescue many a time when I had E46 issues.

To be fair, most of the issues did not come before 100,000 miles on my E46, but when they came, they came: (transmission x2, subframe crack, cat converters, vanos, crankcase vent, constant oil gasket leak, ac blower motor, coolant hose rupture, fuel pump failure, taillight failure, numerous lower control arms, numerous window regulators, etc...). I have spent thousands, dare I say maybe as much as the car was purchased for 18 yrs ago, on that car, a car that I still love, and that may drive better than my F30, and has 250,000 very hard driven miles. My mechanic assures me it should be smooth sailing to 300,000.

I hope not to go down that path with the F30 as I am older, and don't drive quite as hard, but as soon as the warranty is up at 100,000, it may be time for it to go.

If you don't want to fuss with it, just get a lease. They really are meant for people in your situation. You remain in a largely pristine vehicle and never have to worry about these things.

I always heavily modify my cars, so that isn't an option for me. Though I have an E93, I'm actually happy that it doesn't have so many of the gadgets the F chassis has. Less to go wrong, and there is already plenty to go wrong with this one I've got. Though at 56k, the car is in fantastic condition inside and out.

Granted, a lease reduces some of the financial risk of unreliability by virtue of the fact that the car is still in its warranty period.

But if (like many 3-series owners) this is your daily/only driver, unreliable cars still become unacceptable at some level of unreliability.

Example - my air conditioning isn't a deal breaker this time, but if the problem were something that rendered it undriveable, I'd be in a bind because their soonest available loaner car is a week out.

Agreed. Every time I bring my car to BMW it comes back with a new scratch or dent.

Really? Last time that happened with me I made them repair it! Ok we went halves as there was a little scuffing on the bumper already, but this kind of thing is unacceptable. We buy expensive cars, they should take good care of them for us come service time!!

Update: Finally got the car in to get it looked at this morning. SA just called and that it's a bad a/c compressor.

Good news: Under warranty
Bad news: what if it wasn't?
Good news: I could buy an extended warranty
Bad news: That costs how much?!?
