Scratch Repair Near Edinburgh
Hey folks,
A couple weeks into ownership of my F30 and I came out of work to the car park to find my car scratched It is the most pathetic nick out of the paint work maybe 2cm in length between the rear door and the wheel well. I took it to my local dealership who informed me that because it could be felt with a finger they'd need to re-do the entire quarter panel and blend across the door. Looking at a total bill a little north of 500 quid inc. VAT. Sufficed to say I just left. Anyone in the area who can recommend a good dealership to fix the paint? It's on PCP so AFAIK it needs to get fixed at a BMW approved bodyshop, which according to their site... Is just dealerships... Who contract it out... To local repairers... Thoughts? |

Any picture ?
it depends on your colour because it can be very tricky with some colours like Silver so they will have to paint more area to match paint . You dont have to go BMW dealership for that just look up for good bodyshop and you will be paying half the price mate . |

I can recommend Brown's coach works at Slateford. Reasonable prices and first class work.
Dealerships do contract out this stuff (Eastern use a place near Kirkliston). Their contractors may be trained or approved in the BMW way but that's no guarantee for a good job. |

To give their quote mild credit. The scratch is INSANELY deep. Like you can get a good bit of your fingernail in there deep...
So sadly compound and polish ain't gonna cut it Crazy place and angle too. Sadly we'll never know what happened |

That scratch is so small that I would fill it with a coat of touch up paint with a cocktail stick. Then when dry, build it up in layers until slightly proud with clear. Finally a light flat and polish will make it pretty much invisible. Sod paying 500 for a repair on that!

What v6Jules said.
I've repaired worse on my old MG one. Mix the touch up paint with the laquer on a small piece of plastic. One dob of each. Clean the scratch with alcohol wipe or similar. Fill the scratch using a cocktail stick point. Keep building it up and make sure to let it dry between touch ups. Either then flat it off using 2500 wet and dry on a small rubber block or use a medium pad on a DA polisher with a light cut compound. Then finish with a soft pad and polish. You will barely notice it when done. I have 2 like that on the lower edge of my wing on the current 440i. I have done as above and unless you are on your knees with a magnifying glass - you won't see them. I would absolutely not have that sprayed. Hoe that helps.
