Allocation or near new car wanted

Hi,
I'm looking for manual mineral gray, exec package, apple CarPlay.
If you know of any available, let me know.
Thanks!,

Not sure if this is still there but I saw it online a few days ago. It isn't new, but it is a 2017 with your specs. GL

Thanks for that link. Looks interesting. It doesn't have Apple carplay and it looks like they won't budge on price.

I've heard people say the Apple Car play isn't that big of a deal. The price on the car shown is actually at MSRP w/o the car play. I have a similar build except mine is BSM.

I can attest to that. I turned my CarPlay off immediately. Clunky and trash IMO.

And no I'm not a grumpy old man, I actually tried to maximize its use and get used to the UI but it was inferior to idrive in like every way except letting your girlfriend see who is texting you if she's in the car 😆 Lol

Anyone think that there will be future updates to apple carplay that will make it more useful. I'm debating dropping it now on my build

Actually mine was using the hotspot in the car, even though it was not activated. Learned this on the drive home when I tried to turn it off by shutting down my Bluetooth on the phone and it stayed on!!!!

Thanks for the tip.
I spoke with him but he has not gotten back to me. I would need to take delivery at the BMW performance center in South Carolina.

wait.. what?

so your phone uses the car WIFI hot spot to send sound to the car over WIFI... which means that your car has a WIFI hotspot linked to your cel phone account and and an LTE chip right?

So the entire time you use Carplay you are using WIFI hotspot DATA... which is the same as using Pandora/Spotify/ihear radio etc on your phone and plugging the phone into the car.... ?

I'm sure that works.. but ugh... why not use Bluetooth.

Wi-Fi uses lossless audio codecs and Bluetooth has bandwidth limitations. So BT sounds like poo compared to Wi-Fi streaming

in a car.... which really only has good quality audio if you are sitting still as there is road noise from the tires and chassis as well as other external noise when moving ... oh yeah .. including ASD... and via a FACTORY stereo which certainly isn't going to provide Audiophile quality sound .. but interesting.. thanks for the info.

... this doesn't sound like a great option for daily commuting. i'll take the poo and save the data or just connect a wire... sheesh.

It's using WiFi Direct (or an Apple version of it), not a WiFi hotspot type setup as you've described it. BT does not support the bandwidth needed for wireless CarPlay.

Does nobody read my posts?

It does not use any data -nor is it linked to your account.

Are you sure? These days, Bluetooth shouldn't sound like poo compared to wifi, unless the source device is transcoding the source audio on the fly. BMW (and your phone) should support passing the MP3/AAC content through unchanged over Bluetooth.

You wouldn't be able to discern the difference between audio streaming over wifi vs Bluetooth as the link throughput required for hi fidelity audio is available with Bluetooth. You can't tell lossless from lossy above 320kbps for MP3 and even lower for AAC. A lossless codec, while great for a master, is certainly overkill otherwise as all subjective listening tests have shown.

No, you wouldn't be using hotspot data the entire time. If your music is already on the phone, it would just stream it (via wifi) from phone to the stereo.

Plus, I don't know if wifi hotspot data would even be used if the media/etc is NOT on the phone... I believe wireless carplay is a special wifi connection that the phone understands is not connected to the internet. I.e. if the phone has to reach the internet, it will just use the phone's own cellular data (which is no different from what it would do if you were using bluetooth).

I suspect they are just leveraging the existing wifi hotspot equipment in the car to run wireless carplay, not necessarily that carplay is using the data out of that hotspot (as someone else said, their hotspot isn't even "activated" but wireless carplay still works).

To my knowledge, this may be one of the first cars on the market to support wireless carplay too. Most cars still require a wired connection for it.
