2008 328i 204K Idle mis/shutter No CEL Intermittent
Hey guys, any thoughts will be appreciated!
Recently purchased an 08 328i with 204k for a great deal. Drives fine. Needs: Front shocks, Valve cover gasket, possibly coils. Issue: Today after driving it for a bit, when slowing down I started noticing that the RPM's would drop to under 500 RPM before coming to a complete stop and then going back up to 650 RPM and stay there steady. When reaching my destination I parked and put the car in Park. The car started missing/shuttering at a speed of every second fluctuating RPM's between 500-650RPM, up and down. When I stepped on the gas pass 650 RPM's it would just rev normally without hesitation. Once letting off the gas, shutter would return. I turned the car off and went inside a store. Came back and drove back home, the fault did not come back. No check engine light to all of this. When starting the car every time I notice a slight miss right at start up. Nothing as as bad as the shuttering that happened at the store. My thoughts: Car does seem to need an engine mount, however this was not the cause for that type of shutter. Talked to original owner who had the car until 203K and he never replaced coils, he checked resistance on them and checked out good. He did replace spark plugs at 160K. This car has all receipts from the dealer. No major repairs, all maint. up to date, except VCG. My question: Has anyone here had a coil begin to go bad or go bad without triggering the service engine light? Yes- they can go bad and present symptoms differently, have seen coils go bad and become noticeable only at WOT. Thank you! Any thoughts are welcome!

Buy a code reader for BMWs. About $100 for software and hardware combined. It will more than likely pinpoint the issue for you.

Plugs coils (oil in plug wells due to leaking VCG)
clean vanos solonoids or replace .(easy) oil in eccentric shaft sensor.(or bad) check air filter See DIY's |

Im not entirely sure what can cause this because the BMW's dont have a throttle body, but it could be something with the idle air control that needs to be cleaned.
i would start with changing injectors, ignition coils, doing a full tune up and also changing out the air filter and see if that helps. |
