In 4-6 months will market value be lower?

I'm about to order an M2 at MSRP. Delivery would probably be some time around May.

Question is, in 4-6 months is it possible I'll be able to get a significantly better deal? How about 12 months? Does anyone have data to compare previous M models as they hit the street?

I know demand is pretty high at the moment, but seems to be waning a bit.

Lastly, if I order now (no deposit or anything) and the dealer agrees to MSRP, but the market value changes before the car arrives, will I be able to bargain for the market value of the car at time of actual sale? I can't think of any reason why that wouldn't be possible. I haven't and will not be signing anything until the car arrives.

Really appreciate any info you guys can give. Looking forward to owning this beautiful car!

I think in LA, you will not get a better deal that MSRP until there is no backorder.

Hard to predict the future, but I waited a long time to get an allocation here in Los Angeles from a dealer that would agree to sell me an M2 at MSRP.

When did you order? I found 2 dealers with allocation willing to sell at MSRP in an hour of searching.

Maybe they're bullshitting about allocation? We'll see.

Garage List
Will a potential 1K-3K discount be a huge thing for you as opposed to being able to enjoy the car if you buy it at MSRP?

Maybe if they hike MSRP up $5K in MY2018 you will start to see some 1-2K discounts

Kidding of course. But my point is the MSRP is a pretty good value now for what you are getting. Can you count on the value equation staying that way if you wait for MY2018 pricing?

As long as there is wait lists and the majority of dealers getting 1-2 cars every 3 months. I can't see these going for below MSRP..

OP: Your question was "significantly better deal." I'd say the answer is no. Maybe, at most, $2,000. To me, that's not significant. If you want the car, buy it.

If you place the order and the dealer gets a better offer and sells it out from under you, will you be upset? Only you know that answer. With that, you can determine if you should renegotiate your deal when the car arrives.

Thanks for the input guys. Think I'll be placing my order and will see if these dealers are bullshitting about allocations.

There is an artificial supply bubble that the dealer network seems to be more than happy to profit from...why wouldn't they?

This car is not the 1M...

i dont think the market value will change until you see m2's readily available on the used market. new market value will change when you can buy a used m2 for 10-15 less. but they may not be any time soon,

i was at fairfax bmw getting my m4 serviced and asked one Sales guy about their m2 allocations and he said they are on an 8 month wait. 45 minutes later a guy walks in and asked another sales agent about an m2 and they look in the system and they had an allocation at msrp. its seems it also depends on who you ask

Totally depends who you talk to. Some people I talked to didn't know what an allocation was. Others just kept quoting me the same 6-8 month wait time no mater what questions I asked. Then some knew exactly what was going on and were able to advise accordingly

Edit: in response to OP - maybe in 4-6 months it will change. Maybe not. But in 2 years they'll all be depreciating.

Dealer invoice is about 10% under MSRP (not including performance upgrades beyond the Build Tool Options). Dealer is making $5,500 in my MSRP deal plus the volume kickbacks. When discounts come, and I believe it will in the next 6 to 18 months, it will range from $500 to $2,500. Not worth the wait in my book to bet on a potential $2,500 discount. I'm also thinking BMW will curtail production to ensure the market isn't flooded with M2s. What does BMW do when their M3/M4 sales get impacted by M2's popularity?

That's when they offer a better residual on the M3/M4

This was the same conclusion I ultimately came to. Placed the order.

Thanks for everyone's input.

If Murphy's law applies, as soon as we get our cars in a few months, popular dealer delivery will increase to 3 cars per month instead of 3 cars every 3 months and the 2018 LCI will be out just as our cars deliver and the LCI will have very desirable improvements that cannot be retrofitted to a 2017 model. Oh, and then the 2018 will have a different motor as well (but we'll all agree that would be an extreme application of Murphy's law!)

So if the dealer agrees to MSRP and the market value goes up, are you cool with them charging you more? Because you can't have it just one way

There's no "artificial bubble" - BMW has said time and time and time again that the M2 will be extremely limited in supply due to factory production limitations.

It is what it is, and the market is driving prices and will continue until at least 2018.

Except that the The " factory limitation" is BMW AG wanting to push out X1... not because of any issues putting M2 out the door ..
