How low have you gone?
Great day on Saturday morning. I was hoping for -20F but it only got to -16F (that's -26C for everyone outside of U.S.)

The upside is that they generally speaking know how to drive......
Maybe it should be a requirement for all mid atlantic drivers to live in a snowy/northern state for a year or two......then again maybe not......wouldnt want to subject all those nice people to folks from Md/NoVA and especially DC I havent gotten below -5f yet....we usually have a couple of -20 to -25 mornings every year |

4 years ago we had in the Belgian winter - 19° Celsius . And I drove around 4:30 AM to my work and it was Oughhh... !
In the beginning of this cold front we got road salt , but after 2 weeks we saw dozers on the roads to remove the snow and ice . But - 26° Celsius is like holy shit !

I was in Edmonton 3 years ago and it was -59C. That's just wrong. I was on course with the Canadian and US Navy for Icex a few times and -40C was the norm in Quebec City in February. It was warmer under the ice.

Definitely seen -40C, probably my lowest is -44C or around there but -59C is crazy, have not come close to that. Unless that was with the windchill?
If it wasn't a windy day, I guess if you covered up, you'd be ok for 10-20 minutes, but skin exposure would be wicked...I'd be guessing frostbite in under 5 min. |

-40F in Korea. If the ambient was 0 or above, our CO made us run PT. Was especially fun on Monday morning if you were dumb enough to drink too much the night before. (I was dumb enough. More than once.)

I live in finland.
i win, since we have no canadian members here. Minus 37 C (-34f I think) is not uncommon here, but the most frozen I've been was at a Christmas eve in the army, my unit was guarding the empty bloody compound. The nice breeze gave the weather an extra kick and I still remember that moment when I think of a cold weather. Quote:
Okay fine, I win if Canada doesnt count! I'm sure I've been in minus 40 and more, but after twenty who gives a shit?

Yeah, when I was a kid, I wanted to be a reporter. I didn't fancy writing the bs that's financial news or cat shows, so politics and crises was my to be path.
... 911 happened when I was still there and I didn't feel like writing for 40 years that we are fucking it all up. I got over that dream real fast.

Damn, I woke up yesterday and went outside just before 8:00. There was this fine layer of frost on the shadowed side of the roof, and on top of my son's Beetle.
Dog and I took a steamy leak and then went back to cuddle under the covers. . . |

Leave at 5am and it would probably be -20! That temperature is beyond me. Does it hurt your lungs when you get in the car? Do you have to run the AC on the car to keep cool with all of those layers? |

The native Inuit would be walking around in t-shirts at that temp. Seriously, once you go from around -60C (near -80F) to only -20C or so, it feels like spring. People would no longer wear a hat or gloves, and would bring out their lighter jackets, it feels a LOT warmer. Also, at around -60, steel has a tendency to shatter, like wheels and driveshafts. We would also leave our trucks running for pretty much 2 months (Jan/Feb) straight in the winter. If we ever shut them off and they got down to ambient, pretty good chance they would not start till spring. Last edited by MightyMouseTech; 12-19-2016 at 03:39 PM.. |
