BPC Tuned MPG's
Hey everyone,
I have a question for you. I am going to get a tune with BPC (with full ABC delete); however, I cannot decide whether to get the Stage 2 or the Stage 2+ tune. I am trying to make my car as reliable (MPG wise) as possible while still increasing performance. I was hoping some of you who have BPC tunes could give me an estimate of your real world MPG, city/highway. I have a long commute in the morning and I typically average 27 in the city and 38 on the highway and I was wondering what performance tune will still keep me around these numbers. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!!! Robert |

Stage 2+ and I get 35~40 on the Hwy....IF I can keep off the accelerator.
You'll find the power very addictive. |

I'm running a 2.5 set up and I've been doing s steady mix of crappy city and some highway driving and I'm hanging around 27mpg. I was at 34/35mpg highway holding at 80+mph.
Once I keep it steady at 70mph and can keep my foot off the skinny pedal I'm sure ill do closer to 40mpg |

I haven't taken a really long trip yet with my 2+ tune to know how well the highway mpg is now. Before the tune my best tank average was 38 mpg for 600+ miles which was the full tank and probably the filler neck lol.
My computer has shown me 40+ mpg highway for a 200+ mile section, but usually I have a consistent city section in there which brings the average way back down. If I kept driving on the highway, I'm sure I would have reached my best MPG in the car, but I only ever hand calculate full tanks because I know how many gallons were consumed (always fill to cut-off). I don't trust the computer too much unless I know exactly how many gallons were consumed for the distance reported. I need to get my BMWhat / Carly app running again and monitor my fuel consumed to get a better idea for those shorter (non full tank) runs. You'll find its hard to maximize MPG because you have so much available power. Not to mention driving 600 miles without getting into the power at all is hard to do unless you're on a long trip. My commute is 50 / day so that's quite a long time to be going for fuel efficiency. Simply put, the car with retain its fuel efficiency and likely increase marginally if you want it and it can get worse than normal simply due to indulging in the extra power the car now has.

Thanks everyone for all of the information. I will probably go with the Stage 2+. It seems the best balance between economy and power.

On my daily commute through rural SC I am averaging just above 31 mpg most weeks whereas before the tune I was averaging about 29.5 mpg
On the interstate at 80 mph I get around 36 mpg. Before the tune I was hard pressed to see 34 mpg. If I try to maximize mpg (easy on throttle, 60 to 70 mph), I have seen north of 38 mpg after the tune. Record was a 120 mile round trip averaging 65 mph where the computer logged 41.2 mpg.

The instant MPG gain is pretty good with the deletes. I have managed to get high 30's if I don't drive like a dick. There is another MPG gain that can be taken into account, it's the regens and initial startup fuel dumps that are no longer there. Those take up a substantial amount of fuel on a daily basis. My MPG for the year of my tune is 32, opposed to the previous 28 without.
So a gain of 4mpg on average, and additional 150-200hp, what isn't there to like?

Also an eco tune vs a full power tune should essentially be the same at low throttle inputs i.e. Putting around. So the only area where you would loose mpg with a full power tune is if you can't keep your foot out of it. Get the stage 2+ you won't regret it.
