Washer Fluid Pump Not Working
Hey all,
I know I may get better luck in other sections of the forums, but wanted to check in with everyone here first. I noticed today that when I pull the wiper stalk I don't get any fluid spewing anymore. The tank is full. I turned everything off (radio, motor, etc.) and it appears the pump motor isn't even making a noise any longer. I checked the related fuse (#48) and it looked good to go. Is there another fuse I should check? Is it safe to say that my pump motor is just dead? Thanks for the help! |

If you don't hear any noise when you pull the stalk, (and your fuse is OK), its most likely your pump. I replaced mine a couple of weeks back.

Was your pump sounding like it was at least trying to spray before you did this? I would love to give this a shot first, obviously. Any more detail on the procedure to spray the lines from? Did you have to remove the passenger fender liner?

Since I also have headlight washers, should that pump be working independently of the windshield washer pump? There's no way both those pumps failed at the same time, is there? I guess I will check to see if I get any movement or noise from the headlight washers. |

I believe that Headlight washer pump is mounted in the same tank, but is a separate pump, so yes, it technically should still work. They are same pumps (same part numbers)

Both pumps are mounted in the same tank. Headlight wash pump is mounted higher in the tank than the windshield pump. If the fluid level drops low enough only the windshield pump will move fluid.
Windshield washer stopped working on my car. Followed these instructions http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=930107 to pull the tank. Found lots of algae-like growth in the tank. Thoroughly cleaned the tank and the pumps and reassembled. Everything works like new now. JohnnyBravo1: I also tried your solution first. It worked, but only for a short while. Once the crud settled back to the bottom of the tank the pump and strainer plugged up again. - Mark |

^ Yeah, cleaning will work if the pump itself is not dead. If you don't hear the 'whine' when you pull the stalk, its probably gone. it seems like lots of people have that Algae growth. When i pulled mine out, my filter was clean as a whistle.
