Woodcliff Lake, NJ Ė December 6, 2016Ö The BMW X1 receives Car and Driverís first-ever 10Best Truck and SUV for 2017 in the Subcompact Luxury SUV category. The BMW M2 and the BMW M240i make the annual Car and Driverís 10Best list of the best automobiles for sale in the U.S. BMW will accept the awards at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, January 2017.

Although the 10Best award has been issued for over three decades, the 10Best Trucks and SUVs is a new addition to the yearly Car and Driver evaluation and BMW is pioneering in this first-ever category with the new BMW X1. The 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine from BMWís new family of modular engines with maximum output of 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, makes the new BMW X1 the most powerful entry model in the segment. An efficiency-optimized version of the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and newly developed chassis technology all help to enhance driving dynamics and ride comfort compared to the outgoing model. The all-new BMW X1 also showcases its exceptional versatility with increased cargo area and greater interior room with more headroom than before.

The interior offers harmonious balance between driver focus and elegance befitting the classic style of a BMW Sports Activity Vehicle. The iDrive operating systemís Control Display comes in the form of a high resolution 6.5-inch or, optionally, 8.8-inch freestanding display screen. The interior trim and accent strip extend through the door panel trim, with the effect that occupants in all seats are surrounded by premium surfaces with a uniform material and color structure. Standard interior features include: Power front seats with driver-side memory, standard power tailgate, Anthracite headliner, storage package and multifunction sport leather steering wheel.

The optional 360-watt Harman Kardon HiFi system, complete with 12 loudspeakers, provide an outstanding audio experience. Innovative connectivity featuring a standard 6.5 inch infotainment system with optional enhanced USB and Bluetooth plus Smartphone integration, Adaptive Cruise Control and Active Driving Assistant including forward collision warning with automatic braking capability.

The BMW X1 is available at US dealers starting at $33,100 plus D&H.

I haven't test driven the new model X1 yet, currently enjoying my RWD version..

I've seen the new one on the road and it does look sharp !

Happy but surprised, TBH. Wife had the outgoing model as well and I felt it had far superior driving dynamics, though huge improvements on the interior this go around.

Sitting beside my M2, I'm happy our decisions both made the cut.

Despite not being a proper BMW, the X1 is miles ahead of its competition. The Q3, GLA, and NX all suck badly in comparison.

Can't go wrong with a fuel-efficient, baby X5. Well done.

It is not - it is included with BMW's car sales, not SUV. Someone needs to tell C&D!

I'd hold on to that xDrive for now, not going to be the same moving forward, until they drop eDrive on both axles, then BMW will have nail it.

It's a SAV (sports activity vehicle).... I thought! I love the look of it, that and the Macan. The X1 likely replaces my Outback in the new year.

X1 is formally a SUV according to US regulations - 8" ground clearance - and hence liable for less stringent fuel economy requirements - primarily benefitting BMW.

That's great news , X1 beat VW Tiguan and Porsche Macan and Mercedes-Benz GLK .

I'm glad you got the X1 award....This car has the best design of all in the BMW brand..I hope you do not make any changes or Facelift...This should stay the same until 2020. I would like the next generation of Series 3 to use the front of this vehicle....Congratulations BMW. The pleasure of driving....

Totally with you on this. I'm going to be really annoyed if the upcoming X3 and X5 still have the old style headlights (joining the grill). They've done an absolutely fantastic job camouflaging their test mules so far.

The new 5 and 7 Series look alright. But unlike their aggressive side and rear, their front design looks sort of dumbed down in my opinion. X1 (and facelift 1 Series) look mean and angry. It's the eyebrows and the gap between the headlights and grill.

I own an X1 and it's alright, I wouldn't say it should win Car and Driver though.
It's an SAV not SUV and it has shitty gas mileage. I live at the gas station.
