BMW just lost Dirk Werner to Porsche

Well, it's official, Dirk Werner just jumped ship to Porsche. BMW is in a bit of a tailspin in IMSA. Turner lost both of their gentlemen drivers, Werner just jumped ship, and Auberlen has to be eyeballing retirement. Oy!

Vanthoor, Werner Confirmed as Porsche GT Factory Drivers

It sucked when Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller left for Ford and they went on to have an unbelievable year winning LeMans and IMSA. Not sure what's going on with their racing stable, but I did see Alex Sims, Augusto Farfus, and Bruno Spengler's name on the Art Car that they are running at Daytona.

Not sure if they are purposefully integrating their DTM drivers into the US or if this is a one-time thing because of the 24 hr Rolex. Maybe they're banking on some junior racers coming up?

I think they're looking for talent wherever they can find it.

It occurred much more slowly, but racing has undergone a change in thinking that is similar to what happened to baseball in the 90's. Racing program managers no longer pigeonhole drivers to a single series. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of history of drivers crossing over between series, but these days it has become completely normal. It follows that BMW treats their driver lineup with greater flexibility today than they ever have in the past, with DTM drivers regularly appearing in GT races.
