Hey guys.

Im a little bit worried as recently my injectors are more noisy than usual. I can hear the ticking pretty loud even when standing next to the front of the car.

My friend who helps me with this kind of thing says im too paranoid about every noise and that its probably just injectors being cold.

But the noise is actually worse when the car is in high temps.

The car performs well and there are no codes.
Actually there is a fuel filter code. But the filter is just couple of monts old so..
Anyone knows what that code 4587 actually means? What sensors read what wrong numbers etc?

Also it got colder recently here and i switched to better diesel fuel, can it have effect?
Are the noisier injectors always a problem or can it just be better fuel doing the job better? Sounds to me like that noise is not good tho...

You would have to post a HD video for anyone to give you a defnitive answer.



The fault code you have is from the fuel filter heater. Replace that and clear the code and you will be good.



With warmer temperature fuel being supplied to the injectors, perhaps this may quiet them up.

Wuh just looked, its more expensive than it sounds, but im gonna have a look into that.

Does the code always mean the heater is gone?
Can the bad heater cause some serious damage in freezing temperatures?
Do i need original part?

When the engine is cold (and cold fuel) the ecu dumps more fuel thus the added noise. For example, most modern diesels (arbitrary number can vary) will have 7 different injection pulses during a firing cycle. During cold start up the injection cycles will lengthen and add more fuel, ie added noise.
This is common in the tuning world, I am not saying tuning a diesel is easy but most tuners will increase that window by 15% increasing power and adding more noise in the process.. That's why after your car is tuned it sounds different.
Also technically you probably aren't actually hearing the injectors. The diesel rattle people associate with the engine is mostly the cylinder head and walls expanding and contracting slightly when injection cycle happens, Like a tiny grenade inside the engine. That's why older diesels are so noisy, one injection big noise, common rail 7 small injections slower smoother burn less noise.

If you are truly concerned I can teach you how to check the injectors if need be, however unless you have some decent mechanical and electrical ability you probably are best to leave alone. Its up to you..

Yes this code is for the fuel filter preheater. Your best option is to buy a new OEM unit with the heater and clear the codes. If you don't have the preheater you may experience longer/harder starts in the winter time from fuel jelling.
