Tire Rotation

Basic question, but I can't find it anywhere with the search. Does BMW rotate tires for free even when it would not fall under a service time? I usually rotate my tires every 5k, and I'm almost there. So before I go pay for this somewhere else I'd like to take advantage of the BMW service if it's available.

I recently went in for my 2nd service and they didn't rotate the tires. Apparently it's not included in the free maintenance program. My SA told me $80 to rotate them.

BMW doesn't recommend rotation (it's in your manual, but not prominent) so they don't rotate for free.

You have an MSport - doesn't it come with staggered tires/wheels? Can't rotate them anyway.

I doubt you will find a dealership that will rotate tires for free without a specific maintenance/warranty reason. Otherwise, they can not charge it back to BMWUSA

Page 270 of my 2013 335i owner's manual states:

"Rotating wheels between axles
The manufacturer of your vehicle advises
against swapping wheels between the front and
rear axles.
This can impair the handling characteristics."

I think the reason is primarily due to the unique contact patterns between the front and rear suspension geometry that the tire adapts to that if swapped may impact the handling of the suspension.

in reality, most of us would probably not notice any handling difference, but i suspect it would be noticeable on a good road course, at least, until the tires adjusted to the new contact pattern.

I followed the manual on my first set of tires and the rear tires wore out way before the fronts. On my new set, i have been rotating them every 5000miles. They are wearing much better of course and i dont notice any difference in handling or ride comfort. This will allow me to change all four when they are worn. I hate changing just 2 tires and also hate chnaging tires that arent worm out.
