JB4 Bluetooth Kit

Just wanted to get other peoples opinion on whether they think that the JB4 bluetooth connect kit was worth the extra money. Also the extra $20ish for the android app.

If you are on your phone a lot and like to see how things work on the JB4 its well worth it. Updating is super simple as you don't have to use a laptop.

Over the last year it has been super popular. We sell a tonne of the adapters and feedback is super positive.

I was very excited about the JB4 BT module and once I purchased/installed it, I found it very cumbersome to use on my phone. Here is the problem you'll run into. Your phone will want to connect to the vehicle's BT first and there is no way around it without completely removing your vehicle off the phone's BT paired devices list. It wasn't until AFTER I purchased a smaller dedicated android tablet for the JB4 BT module, that I was happy with the setup. I place the tablet inside my glovebox. When I want to use it, I pull it out, turn the tablet one and just hit the JB4 app. It connects without issues and works virtually flawless. I do appreciate the many difficult gauge options and the auto-logging feature. Would I recommend you go this route, YES, it's worth the price of admission (I want to add that the app's creator and BMS who sells the BT module were fantastic in helping me figure out why my module wasn't working correctly at first).
Again, the only grip is, phones cannot ACTIVELY stream two different bluetooth signals at the same time, hence you cannot have your vehicle's BT active AND the JB4 BT active. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but having a dedicated tablet works much better and is much easier to view.

Did you have revision 3? I had the newest one and I never had connection issues. It would connect and handshake with my iPhone and it also connected into the idrive seamlessly.

I never have connection issues either. My phone links to my car/audio and JB4 with no issues. Both phones (LG g3 and htc10)

This is good info to know. I will try once again to setup the BT to my phone and see if I can simultaneously connect to iDrive.

***UPDATE*** I'd like to revise my original comment that my phone could not connect to two different device. After trying a few times, I successfully paired and connected to the iDrive AND the JB4. So far, everything seems just as good as it does on my tablet. My youngest daughter has a free tablet now.

Just installed the JB4 with Bluetooth this week and love it. So easy to switch maps on the fly, read and delete codes. Plus it's just cool to see all the data in real time. Install is very easy.

I ordered mine but got a faulty one. Even then I say do it. Using just obd2 makes you feel blind. I can't wait till my replacement Bluetooth kit shows up!

So everything's working great on mine except it doesn't record 0-60 or 1/4 mile when logging. Is there something I have to do other than hit "start logging" to have it record those stats?

Sean,

Been using jb4 connect for 2+ years - superb no issues.

If you already have usb cable with jb4, as an android user, you can 1st try the app without buying the the jb4 connect kit. Make a hardwired connection to your phone (otg cable from jb4 usb).

If you like it then buy the jb4 connect to switch from hardwired to BT connectivity.

It does but to my knowledge it has no way of measuring speed or distance.
