What do I do with a .bin file?

Ok well that's the question but I'll add a bit of detail.

My iPhone 5 has always worked faultlessly on my 2013 car. I recently updated to ios10 and now calls in to me through I-Drive using Bluetooth are connecting but I can't hear caller and they can't hear me. If I ring them back, it's fine. But this fault is intermittent but happens about 90% of the time.

So I updated phone to absolute latest ios last night. 10.1.1 I think it was - no joy.

So today I downloaded the latest software updates from http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/con...re_update.html

I put "UPD0507.bin" on a usb stick but the I-Drive says wrong type of file.

I know someone on here will make me look a fuckwit - but given I need to fix this asap I'm prepared for the flak!!!

Thoughts please gents.

Andy

I had the same problem, I'm guessing that the file is a previous version?

May be worth getting the update from the UK site:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/ow...es/update.html

And make sure the usb drive is formatted in fat32

Right click the usb drive in my computer, then select format and it gives options of fat32, ntfs etc.

Unless you have windows 10, which doesn't appear to have the fat32 option anymore!

#disappointed

Got the following again.

I did the "quick" format to FAT32, could that be it?

By the way the file on the UK site is "UPD05021.bin"

Yes it's Windows 10 and it did have FAT32 as an option.

Check the update version on the download page mate, it'll be within the PDF link. I downloaded the same .bin file and had the same problem but then I read the PDF and it started talking about part of the upgrade being for IOS 8!

Maybe that's why we can't update?

I'm just guessing here, but until other better solutions come along;

It looks as if that message is complaining about the file on the stick, not the formatting of the stick.

One way to check you've formatted it correctly would be to stick some mp3 files on it and see if the car can read those. If so, the formatting is fine.

Are you sure your car has all of the requirements listed on that download page? Have you ever performed an update before?

How friendly is your local dealer? I would hope they would look at the USB stick and confirm if there is a problem with either the file or car without charging you.

Hmm highest ios reference I could see (quick read admittedly) was ios7. But even so the car isn't wanting to read the file in the first place, regardless of what updated code is contained within.

Will call dealer tomorrow, not expecting much knowledge there tbh!

Will try some mp3s as you suggest, thanks.Never done any updates myself.

Requirements you ask, well:
- Hands-free kit with USB audio interface (optional equipment, code 6NH) No
- Mobile phone preparation Bluetooth connectivity with USB audio interface (optional equipment, code 6NK) No
- Mobile phone preparation Bluetooth connectivity with USB audio interface including BMW Assist (optional equipment, code 6NL) No
- ConnectedDrive Services (optional equipment, code 6AK) Yes
- Intelligent emergency calling (optional equipment, code 6AC) Yes
- Convenience telephony with extended smartphone connectivity (optional equipment, code 6NS) Yes
- Apps (optional equipment, code 6NR) Yes

Although those are the options I paid extra for, I'm guessing where I said no, the car came standard with them.

Grrrr - sorry everyone, I know this is boring!!

Just another thought, have you tried unpairing your phone from the car, in both the phone and idrive options, then re-pairing it?

Yep did that earlier at work. No joy.

Been researching and others have noted many problems:http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1305954&page=6

Embedded in that thread is some advice about unchecking the "audio" box which I'll try.

As is usually the case with these things in the process though I've discovered that my I-Drive won't read the .bin file. But will happily read mp3s off the usb. Crazy mofo.

It's a work-supplied phone. If I ask for a new one, I'll get a windows phone which fills me with dread!

Thanks for your help though, I'll keep trying tomoz.
