335 Style Exhaust Opinions?

Kind of expecting mixed reactions on this one. I've struggled to get hold of a PE for my E92 Coupe due to shortage being made in Germany so starting to look at the custom route.

Gave some though to getting a 335 style cat back system with 3.5" tips, slightly bigger than stock.

What are peoples thoughts on a 335 exhaust on a lower spec engine?

I know when I had my MK1 TT, everyone who owned a 180 seemed to get the 225 twin outlets so it's a similar scenario really.

I'm not casting my 325i off as a 335i, I just think the dual pipes give the rear more purpose.

Anyone had this done or share opinions?

Loads of people on the E90 facebook group have 335 conversions on their "lesser" models.

It's all personal preference. Me personally wouldn't want to make my car look like something it's not.

I really want it but at the same time I don't particularly want to spend ~£450 on it as it gains nothing but looking nice. I am tight as fcuk though.

It does look a lot better. I think crossing the line is M3/M5 bodykits on 3 and 5 series with the quad pipes.

Adding extra badges etc as well.

I think 335 pipes on a coupe are a subtle upgrade. But they can be expensive when you factor in the diffuser.

335 style exhaust is the way forward and theres nothing wrong with putting it on a smaller engine e92 i think. It only gets awkward when you start adding 335i badges/M badges.

If you like it, then go for it

Some of the comments you get on this forum are very random. Having a 335 exhaust on anything other than a 335 is a big no no. But having M3 alloys, bumpers, mirrors, etc on a non M3 look great

Haha, no mate you're still within the oem realm there. Just step away from the M3 badges :

Right a place online based in the UK has thrown a spanner in the works as they have a PE in stock for my 325i.

Do I go for that or carry on down the custom 335 style route?

Dilemma, Dilemma,

"O" What to do, Only you can decide, but if it means not shelling out for the 335 defuser and getting a sport defuser for twin pipes then that's the way forward...

I know with the PE it's going to be a good fit, decent sound etc

Custom route might be a bit of a gamble depending on who does it.

Swaying towards keeping within the oem realms...

Do it if you want to do it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or would/wouldn't do to their car as it's your money and the look you're after.

I'm not doing the quads BUT am pretty much bolting all the OE M3 panels on to mine as I want to run wider more aggressive rims. Yes people will have a go and I'll get all the normal comments you'd expect but personally don't care.

It's my money and what I want to do.

I think it will look good so go for it.

Here is the thread i made when i did minehttp://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=948481

i got a local exhaust shop to make a custom rear section which cost £150 and found a genuine 335 LCI rear diffuser on eBay for £40

Its definitely the best mod i have done to this car, I didn't do it so people would think it is a 335i but just because it looks 100x better. Just don't put a 335 badge on it as that is just complete pointless and daft imo

Just depends on the cost difference.

If works out cheaper to buy the PE one then definitely go that route.

It's working out about the same for the PE as a custom with 335 diffuser factored in at the moment! Haha so that doesn't really solve the problem.

I'm under no illusions that the PE is overpriced for what is just a rear silencer compared with the option of a full custom system.

Then I'd go custom as you get more benefits with the additional look you would like too.
