I polished my exhaust tips today

It was freaking caked in carbon deposits.

Used 000 steel wool and scrubbed it hard.

Used this as well:

I bought my car used a month ago and I don't think they have ever been cleaned.

Try 0000 grand next time, it does really well and is more fine so less scratches going in, more of a polish.

This and soapy water is what i always use and they come out great.

Grrr, it's already beginning to build up some soot !!

Is that normal for 335i?

I got my car about a month ago.

Yes... but you will notice that the soot now wipes away easily with just a damp microfiber towel. Make it a habit to wipe down your tips every 1-2 weeks after you wash your car and you will not need to polish them for a very long time
