Should I???

Have the opportunity to get into a 2016 M2 without a markup and a generous discount thanks to some smooth talking to BMW corporate.

I have been a long term BMW Fanboy, but took a detour last Feb and traded in my 2015 M4 for a 2016 Jag F-Type R Coupe. Love mostly everything about the Jag, but as I just mentioned, I'm a bimmer fanboy for life. What peaked my interest even more was I recently purchase a 2006 R53 John Cooper Works 6sp and realized just how much I missed driving a manual.

My reservations with the M2 are it being a 2016 and a full MY old. But then I see how much some of these used 2016 M2s are priced and how they are retaining their value--at lease for now. I miss out on the updated iDrive--worth it? And ultimately, still paying msrp for a 2016, but then we all know about the markups. Are these justified concerns or am I over thinking it?

Yes! Lots of people would love to be in your position. There are still multi-year waiting lists at many dealers.

The one I'm looking at has been on the lot forever, due to an initial markup, and 30 miles on the clock--apparently some test drives. Would you be concerned?

When the M2 first came out I was in the same shoes you are in. 3k off Msrp for an M2 back in May of this year.

Went with an M3. But if I got an M2 would consider it an upgrade.

Guess it comes down to several factors: the dealer and trust in their word re: the 30 miles. That's really nothing.
Then the markup? if there is one.
Then there is the wait...for some its interminable. I am thankful for an allocation that came thru, and its waiting on the docks now.
Then there is cost and loss for trade? Probably not a real issue for you. Mainly its the wait if you really want one...and there is a bird in the hand right now.
Then finally the color, and tranny?
If it all adds up, go for it.

I'd say if it's AW, 6MT, no exec pkg and no CF add ons, then definitely pass. And after you pass, pm me with the dealer info.

Sorry man, I'm not following?
You were able to find an M2 last May for $3k off and you passed and went with an M3? Or you mean you got $3k off your M3? And it sounds like you aren't entirely happy with the M3 anymore, as you would consider the M2 an upgrade?

-Don't know why, but I do seem to trust the dealer. He's a pretty active CA on the forums

-No markup as I noted above

-No wait. Car is available today on their lot/has been for months

-6MT LBB

LOL
I think you might have nailed some of my apprehension...it is a 6MT, which I want, but it's loaded to the gills with exec pkg and the overpriced BMW MPE and CF add ons.

No that's exactly how it went it was around 3k off Msrp (for the M2) and I went with an M3.

At the time I couldn't rationalize the cost of the M2. But today if I traded cars for an M2 I however would consider it an upgrade (not a downgrade).

This sounds really strange to me... that car you described sitting on a lot for months with only 30 miles on it and not being sold for a premium (other than the performance parts premium)? With the amount of really active people on here scratching to find an M2 even at a premium in some cases, this just sounds wierd.

If there are no other conditions (e.g. signing the contract in blood) I say go for it.

All sounds good to me, from the car, to equipment, to the price, I'll say go for it. I shouldn't be concerned been a 2016 model year as it has better maintenance coverage than MY2017.

You can't really say that without knowing what needs to be replaced and how the car is going to be driven. Is a new clutch going to be needed? Probably not. Do all rotors and pads need to be replaced before 50k miles? Maybe front rotors. And maybe 1 oil change out of pocket. I'm thinking the required service cost difference would be less than $1k for most owners.

Actually the exec packaged is 150 bucks more, paint job 150 more which is peanuts.on top of the over 2K cost to equal the 2016 warranty.I idrive my M2 after 1200 mile break in, fully and hard...which means I am not gonna take the chance to end my warranty after 3 years 36K miles on a new model who's in its first year. A M car need to be driven like the ultimate driving machine and just knowing that is anything goes wrong bumper to bumper I am covered..that alone is worth the price, if you intend to keep the car to 100K miles I would buy the extended service warranty as well as full car protection. This was a purchase, not a lease with the intention of keeping the M2 for 100K miles....if anything goes wrong its not on my dime..that is the way I like, nobody, me or you can predict what is gonna happen, other than if you are not covered get your checkbook out and pray.....for me it drive it like no other car I have owned before...

PS: note that the difference is 14,000..not 12...BMW chose to save the bucks and not divide the 50K at 12,500 per year...so you are paying 2K plus for 14,000 miles for the extra year..that is an exta 1500 miles.

I've never had a clutch problem in a BMW. But yeah, I'm not sure what that means as far as maintenance-service work? And that should be considered separate from warranty work due to part defect.

If it's in NJ, its a car I know at my local dealer. The CA is a friend of mine. If I didn't already have one I would jump on it. The car is mint/in the show room, not just outside on the lot. The person who specced the car backed out on it.

If its not the car I'm describing, then ignore what I said, but I would still pick up a 16 with the maint program and no wait time.

And we have a winner!
But it's not like it was that hard to decipher with so few available. Lol

Yeah, he seems like a good guy and legit. He's been very responsive and has gone to bat for me. Again, I just need to think if this is really what I want. I have a disease when it comes to cars! I only picked up the Jag 8 months ago. This sh*t gets old and very expensive!!
