Question Bridgestone Potenza RE050A VS. RE-01R VS. ContiSportContact 3 VS. Michelin Sport PS2

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position VS. Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R VS. ContiSportContact 3 VS. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

Planning on putting on 18 rims on my 335xi sedan. Which is the best tire, for use everyday here in NY for the Spring & Summer?
I drive aggressive from time to time in the highways, safely of course.
I'm looking for the best handling, turn ins, no hydroplaning in rain, especially since I'm not lowering this car or have sport suspensions.
I will also occasionally go the the track (Three times a year).
Forget money being an issue, just want to know which is the best summer tire for this vehicle? PERIOD

Add a poll next time

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R gets my vote. Also recommend a suspension upgrade if you track your car, even at 3x/year.

By a WIDE margin. You are comparing and contrasting tires that are long known NOT to be in the same class. Tirerack doesn't even sell them in the same category. The RE-01R is a completely separate grade of product... far superior to anything else you could put on your car. No question about it.

You might want to check out this thread before getting the csc3. one of our members experienced a blowout which may be caused by structural failure.

I have the Conti CSC3s on my own vehicle. That Malaysian forum member stated that was driving at 180kph and the inside of his wheel looks all banged up. I would be suspect that this was purely a fault of the tire.

The RE-01R would be a noticeable step up from the PS2 in dry grip/cornering but will be a stiffer riding and will not wear as long.

Question

Wow, must of been a bad batch from continental.

Gary, I guest from these four tires, the PS2 and the RE-01R are the best tires?
If so, whats the best tire for the rain and dry? I know you stated the RE-01R is the best in dry, cornering and track. I got the XI to sprint in the wet too.
I don't have the sport suspension and I've driven a sedan with sport package so I know how it feels (a little harder than without), equivalent to what will the RE-01R feel like, so I can get an idea?

My previous set of tires was PS2 and my current set is RE-01R.

Like others have said, RE-01R is superior in terms of dry grip and road holding. Definitely better summer tire than PS2.

The grip on wet surfaces are comparable. That is to say, both are fine for everyday driving in the rain. (keep in mind I live in Cali). I did not notice any differences between them in wet conditions, but then again I don't drive my car hard when it's wet outside.

I'm definitely Michelin biased, but how much less wear on average on the Re-01Rs? they seem to be much less expensive??

Wow, I have always thought the Michelin PS2s are the king! I had a pair myself and I loved them.

I have the PS2 as well. They have very good grip in dry or wet.

Question

OK. So basically the RE-01 is the best from all these. What do you guys think about Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec against the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R?

My friend has these Dunlop on his 535i, and his handling is sick.

I am sorry to hear that your friend's 535i isn't handling well. He should get RE-01R's to solve that problem.

Seriously though... I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I am sure Gary will back me up on it (after all, Tirerack's own tests confirmed this), the RE-01R is a class leading product... and practically in a class all its own. Its capabilities in a performance arena however, do come with a price... it isn't your best "all over" tire... cold/wet weather is a "sore spot" in the RE-01R's profile. So, unless you live in a true "four seasons climate" and all season capability is important for you, you really can't beat the RE-01R. Its simply not going to happen.

The RE01-R will have better grip levels, but will be a bit stiffer riding and wear a bit faster than the PS2. I would expect that even the RE01-R should ride better than the OEM runflat tires, but I haven't driven these two types back-to-back so I can't say for sure if that would be the case.
