Are dealers still charging over msrp?
Just want to get some feedback. Who has any current info on the state of the m2 market? Are they still trying to charge over msrp? I know each dealer is
different but I just want to get some feedback. As of Aug, by me most dealers wanted over msrp. I know a bunch of '17 allocations opened up. |

I live in Los Angeles and have been scouring ads for months. None around here seem to be selling for MSRP. All have a $5,000 to $10,000 markup. I have asked several dealership salespeople in Southern California to let me have the first available allocation that the dealer will agree to sell at MSRP. So far, nothing, but that may change with the allocations for the first quarter of 2017 (or so I have been told).

~5K markup is still very common, but there are plenty of dealers out there selling at MSRP with refundable 1K deposits. I doubt you'll find anything in SoCal. You'll have to reach out to dealers around the country and either pickup or arrange for shipping. Just need to call around!

Seems like LA is where the markups are most consistent right now. It's important to note any dealer can ask for any price they want for a car, its up to the customer to decide what they are willing to pay. There are plenty of dealers out there that are selling for MSRP. I have a real issue with dealers holding these cars for ransom using market adjustments, I think it is sleezy so I made a decision long ago I would be willing to pay a couple of grand in shipping costs rather than feed the sleezy practice of these markups. Fortunately I was able to get a car for MSRP locally. The 2017's are beginning to show up so it will be interesting to see if any dealers have unaccounted for cars and what they will ask for them.
While I tend to get on my soapbox on the market adjustments I don't hold it against any buyer who is in a circumstance where they have to pay such a markup. Many dealerships have strict policies against this practice, those are the dealers that I would focus on. |

In the Southeast, most dealerships have been selling at MSRP-- particularly in the smaller markets. And I agree with the above, I'd rather pay to ship a car (or to fly out and drive it back) than pay a dealer markup. Of course, if you get an allocation anywhere in the country, you can do Performance Center Delivery. Or European Delivery.

Probably not much of a help to you in the US...
I put a deposit on a 2017 allocation (likely will be an '18 model year) yesterday. 100% refundable deposit up to production and contract is at 2017 MSRP. I guess I will have to wait to see if they try to increase the price to 2018 MSRP (assuming an increase) when I get closer to the date. |

Norcal is $5k. Best deals are in the winter states now. Nobody wants to buy a RWD sports sedan when it is going to be snowing, but enclosed shipping from there to CA is over $2K.

I got one for MSRP last Monday. They had someone cancel on the order and I took it quickly once it became available. They tried to sell to me for $7,000 over MSRP. But got them to give it to me for MSRP. All happy now.

Hint: find Penske owned dealerships in California. They have a policy not to charge over MSRP. Their wait lists might be the longest out there though.

All depends on the region. But either way, expect to work to get an available now MSRP allocation.
A local high volume dealer still have people signing on to the list right now and their list is still over 70 deep. Mostly because they are charging MSRP only and people have no interest shopping out of state. To locate a MSRP open allocation one needs to find the sweet spot dealer where it's not a major city center high volume dealer with a long list but it's also not a small dealer out of nowhere where they don't get allocations. |

I picked one up Saturday for MSRP in New York thanks to this forum.
What I did learn was the dealer said I was the last email in the night before but the first call in Saturday morning so i got it. You have to stay on it. Week 51 build. Have no idea when it's coming. |

A lot of cars are showing up in dealers out here. Doesn't quite make all this demand seem real. I think at this point the goal is MSRP. It might ch age to under MSRP like m3/m4 cars by next year.
Thoughts? |

I think LEFT coast Stealers are still gouging. Midwest seems to hold steady at MSRP. I am seeing a lot of cars on CAR GURU. These are new cars that Stealers are marking up to see what they can get for them $$$. I have not moved on my wait lists one spot, been on them for two months. Looks like 2200 to 2500 cars per year unless the factory pulls the plug like they did on the M1 but I do not think they will. They want an entry level M car and so far that is the M2. |

In live in the mid-midwest and got really lucky. I walked into the dealership the same day they got two allocations for the month. They gave me one at MSRP and I left behind a check for $1k.
That was the end of July. My car is currently heading to the dealership (guessing on a train) |

Agreed. I live in MA and just went to a dealership two days ago. They had a M2 in stock (LBB, w/o executive package, M Performance Parts installed) and they are willing to sell it at MSRP.
