track insurance?

so at my last track event at Buttonwillow, there were 2 crashes (not to mention a lot of cars going off the track)
an e46 m3 slammed into a wall by itself after trying to correct a bad entry into a turn
and later, an old integra and old miata crashed into each other, taking out some bumpers and whatnot

i drove off track for the first time as well (my 3rd track day)
entered a turn too hot and then oversteered ... tried to correct it for a split second and then let it go because i didn't want to end up like the e46 m3
no damage to my car, just got really dusty

so that got me thinking about track insurance
do you buy it? who do you use? how much are we talking about?
i'm definitely going to be researching this before i sign up for another event

Lockton.

https://locktonmotorsports.com/product/hpde-insurance

You state the coverage (how much you think the car is worth), and the organizer, and they'll tell you how much it cost. Keep in mind they don't cover some organizers, and fee may vary between organizer to organizer.

For a BMW CCA (low risk, run very strict, very few offs and crashes) 2-day event, with a stated coverage of $45,000, I believe I was quoted $250 for the weekend. Your mileage may vary.

yeah, i just used that website and got a quote based on the next BMW CCA event at buttonwillow
stated value of $45,300
$286 or so with 10% deductible
$260something for 15% deductible

definitely worth the peace of mind
but ... there are a bunch of warnings about how the insurance is being provided by an out of state, non-admitted carrier and such

Probably standard disclaimer. I only have anecdotal evidence of OTHERS having claimed their damages and losses. I've been fortunate.

Lockton is who I use. Luckily I haven't had to use them but a good friend of mine ran off at VIR in his E46 M3 and Lockton took very good care of him.

good to hear
it'll definitely be worth the $260-280 to have peace of mind for my next track day

i have to fiddle around with the calculator
see if it gets cheaper if i add more events to the cart at once

Always buy the insurance. It's cheap in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah I struggle with that very question, it's pretty much a personal decision. If I wrecked my car I would probably be in a lot of trouble with my wife, but I could afford it.

If you have a spouse I would recommend talking it over with them. If you can't afford it, then it's pretty simple to just pay the premium for the insurance. Or track a cheapo car you can let go if it crashes.
