Slow response in comfort mode f30 335d
Got my first auto after 30 years of driving manual. Sometimes I put my foot down and the revs go up but the car hesitates before shooting off. It's probably only a few microseconds but feels like an age when you are counting on it. It doesn't seem to happen in sport mode and seems worse when the engine is cold.
Is this just something I need to get used to with autos? Sport mode is ok but I don't like the engine reving high when 90% of the time I'm sat in traffic unable to overtake. It would be great to have the responsiveness without the high constant revs. Is this possible? Thx. |

Seems to be the 8 speed does hesitate in comfort then shoots off as you say. Throttle response is better in sport which as you would expect. It is annoying but you learn to live with it and the box is supposedly always learning and should get better if I understand correctly.
Happens in the 340s as well. |

I often feel the same and now Having the 330e with its, literally electric, throttle response has made it seem even worse to me.
I have had other autos and they weren't as bad so I'm not convinced it's just the gearbox response, but partly "wind-up" in the xdrive drivetrain, partly the gearbox, partly the throttle mapping, and partly the revs being so low if you're cruising that the turbos are just not that responsive. If you don't want to click to sport mode then I find a quick knock of the stick to the left is quickest and easiest to do, and then back again after the overtake of whatever.

Great link Jay.
V interesting thread, I don't think I will try the reset procedure as pretty happy with my 8at lci 320D. Was showing interest since in the recent cooler weather from a cold start it has been hanging onto first gear a bit longer than usual. My initial pull away is up a v slight incine. I pull away pretty gently as don't want to load & rev the cold engine, it used to change to second almost immediately but now its waiting until about 2100rpm which is fairly out of character with it's usual low throttle shifts of well below 2000rpm. Probably just the cold start mapping kicking in I'm certainly not going to fiddle with it. |
