12v supply under dash

Admiral have sent me one of those boxes that monitor my driving. I've installed it and running power off the 12v supply under the glovebox.

Can anyone confirm if the 12v socket remains live all the time including when you have locked the car up and gone inside?

No, I have my dashcam running from that lighter socket under there (because I'm lazy and haven't got it hard wired yet) and can confirm it switches off after about 5-10 minutes when the car has fully shut down.

So why does the lighter socket ( above the cup holders ) not work ? mine has got a blank plastic plug in it !!

I received an email stating if I called them, they send me a little box and three months of driving SHOULD reduce my insurance by 20%. I ignored it and over a week later I got a phone call asking me if I was interested.

Coincidence that a month before I had an accident on route to work and has involved a rather hefty bill for them???

Im not sure that when my quote comes through that I will see a 20% deduction because each year my insurance is going up more and more.

Or 3 months of driving and your insurance goes through the roof due to spirited driving and hard stops whilst bedding in your brake pads.

We assessed some of these hums/tracking type boxes for corporate fleets (delivery vans, sales reps, lorry drivers) and during the sales demo we were shown how every week the software produced a list of those "in need of additional training" (or disciplinary) and it really hit home how much big brother can be watching- the piece de resistance was when the live demo showed the sales rep stopping at McDonald's at about 10am, engine off, and hen getting back on the road literally 1 min later (it was obvious that the fella had stopped for a comfort break) - to which the tracking vendor laughed off "the live tracking is an optional extra"

Who needs privacy huh! :

I don't have anything to hide to be honest. My routes are quite low speed, however I do shift work so they are all times of the day and night.

The box is controlled by me and at any point I can pull the power on it

I just removed mine last month after having it in for the first 3 months I had the car

I don't think they actually monitor it very well, or maybe they couldn't monitor mine very well because I had it in the boot (even though they advise against it and suggest putting it up front somewhere)

First month/1200 miles were mostly eco pro everywhere sticking to the speed limit with cruise control because I was wary of the box.
Driver rating for the first month: silver

Then one day coming back from hertfordshire with my cousin in a 530d (courtesy car) I may or may not have hit 120 for a short period. I was prepared for a phone call about my driving and to blag it off as "oh the box is in my boot it must have glitched" but nope, nothing.

Driver rating: silver.

After that I got a bit braver and started driving how I normally would, comfort mode, speed limit +10%+2mph as usual, with a bit of spirited driving on national speed limit roads

Driver rating: silver.

At the end of the 3 months I only got a discount of about £43 (about 4% ) but admiral were still the cheapest quote I could get at the time, so I'm not too bothered about that.

Have you got the non-smoker pack, maybe it's deleted?
