2011 N55 longblock core
I have an N55 longblock with some potential internal damage up for sale. It came out of a 2011 335i xDrive 6MT with 44k miles on it. A couple months ago, I got caught in some standing water. I made it through the water, but the car went into limp mode and I had it flatbedded to my mechanic. The motor ran, but misfired, and had lower compression in cylinder 5. Rather than try to rebuild it, mechanic suggested replacing it, and a comprehensive claim on my insurance paid for a replacement BMW remanufactured long block. Rather than my local BMW dealer, I got the longblock from Tischer BMW in Maryland. I can get a core refund, but the freight to ship the motor back to them is looking a little higher than initially expected. Right now the old motor is sitting at my mechanic in the shipping crate while we try to find alternate shipping options. This is just the longblock, all ancillaries like turbo, manifolds, etc. were transferred over to the new longblock and put back into my car. I talked with my mechanic and he's willing to have the motor hang around at his shop while I see if I can sell it. He's going to email me a couple pictures of it soon as right now it's all wrapped up. I'll post those as soon as I have them. If anyone is interested in picking it up at my shop in Madison, WI you'd be doing me a big favor. All reasonable offers will be considered! |

How many miles were on the longblock before the water damage? Does your mechanic believe a rod cut loose, or just got bent? Did he scope it? I'm interested, but I would want to have the cylinder in question scoped first.

There were about 44k miles on it before the water damage. His theory was that a rod got bent enough to cause the lower compression but the motor still ran while it was in the car. Hasn't been scoped but I could see about that. I guess the main thing is with you in Colorado, I'd have to arrange for shipping, and that would be an additional cost.
