Deposit on Allocation Refundable?
So after calling like 30 dealers I finally found an open allocation and am about to put down a 2500 dollar deposit that is non refundable. I was wondering if any of you guys put down that much, and if it is normal to be non-refundable.
Thanks! |

I put $1,000 and they said they would not charge my card until it went into production.

In California I know any deposit is refundable, they may try and give you a hard time but it IS refundable at the end of the day. I had to put 5k down on my production number (which will go towards car purchase price) but they use it for "assurance" that I'm serious lol.

My dealer told me the deposit was not refundable... After they didn't get my allocation this last round I asked them for my $2000 deposit back and they gave it to me. I figured it wouldn't hold up and I was right. If one doesn't have a production number I think they would be hard pressed to keep the deposit of you ask for a refund.

I put $2,500 non refundable but only because I was sure about the car. I was pretty sure also that if I didn't get an allocation within the year I would get it back. 2nd place on the list and I got my allocation back in June for August build.

What I find strange is how most dealers want deposits from 2k-5k. When someone places an order for a GT350 or 350R from me we take a check for 500 and just sit it in their deal jacket until the car shows up. Oh well.

My dealer required a $5000 non-refundable deposit. Got my production number that same day and the car went into production one week later, so it was fine with me.

Yeah I think deposits are a good idea with how flaky the waitlists seem to be, people dropping off left and right. Gives a more accurate view of what the real backlog is.

So you called and got an actual allocation for immediate production? I guess that's not bad. Not a deposit to be on a waiting list. Just to be on a waiting list, that would be ridiculous.

Well I called the dealer and asked him to make it refundable until the production date and he was fine with it. But yeah I got an allocation for week 46! It took a long time to find though. Thanks for all the replies though, i'm soo pumped for this car.
I called one place that wanted a deposit for a possible allocation in 3 years... told them I would call back in 2 and a half. Haha |

I put down $7500, which was a condition of purchase. But purchase itself is locked at MSRP, so I didn't give a rip. Pay now or pay later. Or both

I put down a refundable $1,000 when I placed myself on the wait list back in April, however, a buddy of mine called the same dealer a couple of months later and they bumped the deposit up to $5,000.
