Where is this oil coming from

So I have noticed as of late a build up of oil in some weird places coming from what looks like the inside the underside of the hood. I don't think its blow back coming through the intake. I hope not if so I would need to put a catch can. But from what I was told the N55 does not have this issue. There is no real way to describe this take a look at the pictures. Has anyone experienced or seen this before on the 235?

Normal corrosion protection oil spreading over the metal.
Maybe it's engine and ambient heat that makes it occur as the mileage increased.

But it's normal and there are a few other post about this.

Could it be the anti-corrosion sealant/wax in the hood leaching out? Does seem odd.

Really, it smells like engine oil. I have cleaned it up a couple of times already seems like a bit much to be anti corrosion sealant or wax.

Do you have any in the forward bottom areas of the door jambs?

I have the same oil buildup from the hood. Initially noticed it around the top left corner of my front/right headlight.. It started accumulating there, and congeals again over the top part of the lens to a yellowish color.. Gross. It takes some elbow grease to clean, and it keeps coming back unfortunately. 2 years, 33,000 miles it still happens.

99% sure this isnt motor oil. It is called cosmoline and it is used to protect the metal against corrosion while shipping. If you look harder in the engine bay you will see it in other places as well. Its ok, dont worry.

I have this too, I believe it is grease for the hood closures. I think as things get hot under the hood it starts to breakdown a bit can come out under the hood. I've had it, others have had it, pretty sure another post on this somewhere. Not engine oil and not coming from the intake as it really couldn't come from the intake as the engine is upstream of that and your intake filter would be saturated in oil if that were the case.

Either way it's nasty and is making a mess. That's a hell of a lot of cosmoline. Should it not be staying where it was applied to prevent corrosion. At this rate it will not have protection much longer. Anyhow thanks for the info guys much appreciated.
