Update
So I just have my D back from the dealer. My car has 152000 km . I started to notice back in February that my coolant temp wasn't stable as before. Since I bought it new, it always been at 86C. I began to fluctuate in between 79C to 107C. Not cel so dealer never wanted to investigate so last week I got a cel. They changed a few sensors and scr tank and metering valve and coolant fan. They replaced everything and asked them to do a coolant flush as well as replace my thermostat. Got my car back this morning only to find out that I still have a lot of variation with my coolant temp going all the way up to 99C without even flooring the car. I don't know what to do ?
Car is a 2011 m-sport 335d So my car is back at the dealer and they are pulling off the intake to check for carbon buildup and they are replacing both turbos. |

Normally there is a stat on top of the EGR cooler and a main one that sits behind the EGR cooler. These are meant to run in the 90's for sure and stats if replaced need to be OEM parts.

Really Im not sold on the OEM idea either. When an OEM part is known to fail prematurely and often, does it really make sense to stick with the OEM part? Its not like thermostats are black magic, any manufacturer is capable of making a thermostat that works. I do wonder WHO makes the OEM part, Beck/Arnley and Mahle both make a replacement and both sell OEM parts to BMW so hard to tell. I would be just as likely to trust the Gates replacement as I am to trust those two. |

Fill your boots and use aftermarket. Aftermarket supplies which have been used in the uk (mine and Specialists experience with 30+ years of BMW experience) has shown that the job will need doing twice if it's not OEM. 88' is when the thermostats open, correct.

They are probably caked and baked to hell considering the sight of that IC.
Prime example of what happens to these cars without proper build. Anyways, sorry to hear about this. I'm sure BMW will take care of you! |

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see anything with the intercooler to suggest carbon buildup? All I see is what appears the be a leak in the intercooler from some damage, letting the oil we all have in there seep out.

You can see one of the boroscope We were able to see that all the valves and seats had lots of cbu. The master tech told me it is the worse he has seen. They talked about walnut blasting but they suggested to replace the entire head. |
