B58 JB4 Shift Behavior

Just finished installing the JB4. Power feels good, although turbo lag is more prominent. I noticed when shifting on power you can feel a loss of boost. It feels like the turbo is trying to build up again. In stock form it feels seamless. Is this expected?

Note: Still waiting for Bluetooth kit to get some logging.

Did you buy it new or used? Make sure you are running the latest Firmware. I had a problem with mine. Ending up finding out that the previous owner had reduced peak boost to 8lbs in 3rd. So I'd take off like a banshee and then it would fall on it's face. Pretty embarrassing, got walked down by a chick in a 135.

Make sure your user adjustable settings are set to default.

Shouldn't have any less torque than stock at any time so do some logs when you can to evaluate.

So far only a few miles. I'll have another 60 on it by tomorrow night.

I bought it new and updated firmware to version 3. I verified the user settings were default. You would think there would be a button to apply defaults. The windows app is pretty janky. Waiting on a Bluetooth adapter from extreme power house to use the iOS app.

There is more toque, it just doesn't come on as smooth. You put your foot down and it takes a second for it to spool up. Perhaps because of the increased psi it take longer to build.

Are you in Sport+ with DSC disabled? TC or DSC could be causing a drop in power to maintain traction. Something definitely isn't right if you feel like you are experiencing more lag. Also, what other mods do you have?

I almost always drive in Sport+ with manual paddle shifting. I just put another 40 miles on the tune and the lag seems to be better while in gear.

However, shifting near redline in 1st and 2nd is really rough. The power and boost feels like it cuts out and it is quite jerky.

I know logs would help, but the Bluetooth Connect Kit has been sitting at Extreme Power House for the last 5 day "awaiting pick-up". I emailed Mike, hopefully I'll have it soon.

Edit: I have no other mods

Same here, it's like a hiccup when wot, and the trans shifts, turn jb4 off and it shifts smooth again.

I love the power but not the shifting, so I have it turned off

I feel the exact same thing in Comfort mode. Enabling DSC (TRACTION button or Sport +) seems to cure this for me. I'm guessing it is the ECU dropping boost/ closing the throttle but I have not logged it. With DSC on the car also doesn't short shift which helps because this engine makes power all the way to recline.

The B58 JB4 has timing control, maybe its set to pull too much timing at the shift for your fuel/conditions. For tuning advice you'd need to post a log of the problem to the n54tech support forum. BMS doesn't sponsor/read this forum.

It's in beta for the B58, I wouldn't expect it to be perfect yet. Like others suggest do some logging and contact support. They are pretty smart cookies.

Any updates? Mine does the same thing. It almost seems like at WOT near redline it stops for a second and it picks backup but you lose a lot of ground when that happens.

All I have is BMS intake and the jb4.

Yeah that was a bit overoptimistic, it spoofs the IAT to lower timing but it's very crude and can't react fast as it would throw a fault. So basically JB4 tells your engine when it's on boost that IAT are roughly 140 so it pulls timing.

I will do some data logs. My theory is it might be the BMS intake causing an issue or 91 crappy fuel.

Any updates regarding this? Did the shifting behavior fix itself as you kept driving it? Or did the new firmware update fix the shifting behavior?

Edit-- Update fixed it

I have this same issue with and without the jb4. The higher boost/extra power just makes it more noticeable. Turning traction control off helps but it still feels like I'm being held back by electronics and turbo lag. I still love my car but this kind of stuff makes me miss how raw my mustang was.
