New 230xi - what is this?
I picked up my new 230xi today. It came with this tool kit. What is it for?
So far (30 miles of driving), the differences I have noticed between the 2015 228xi I had before are that the car beeps when I lock the doors even though I don't have an alarm, the climate control display has white digits instead of orange, and the car did not come with a navigation, entertainment, communication manual which, according to the owner's manual, has to be obtained from the service center. |

Ones a tow hook that screws into the socket on the front or back under the circular plastic covers. The other is a screw driver.

Did the early 228i never have those things you've mentioned? My 2016 228i has all those; including the white digits for climate control, the toolkit (mine included both front and rear tow hooks) and the alarm.

If you have the alarm, there will be a "clown nose" just below the rear-view mirror.

The handle of the screwdriver can removed so that the shank can be reversed. I believe the other end is a flat blade. Also, the hole in the handle into which the shank is inserted is meant to be used as a tool to loosen the fasteners on the cover for the front fuse box.

You're right, I do have an alarm. So the only difference I am noticing between the 2015 and the 2017 is this tow hook kit. I've only driven the car for half an hour and I didn't notice any difference in sound or performance, but I am perhaps not as attuned to those things as others might be. I did not get the M Sport package so I have the 17" wheels which I think look better and which I hope will result in fewer tire blowouts.
