Motor Trend claims Nissan GT-R making at least 507 HP:

However, some have questioned the numbers. How does the GT-R, which has a weight-to-horsepower ratio 25% higher than the Turbo and Z06, beat both around the racetrack?

Motor Trend questioned the numbers too, and decided to check for themselves when they received a GT-R to review. They took the GT-R over to K&N Engineering in San Bernardino, CA, who strapped it to their in-house chassis dyno to see just how much horsepower the car was making. Three separate runs in fourth gear netted an average of about 430 horsepower at the wheels. Assuming a conservative 15% drivetrain loss, the GT-R is actually producing more than 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft torque at the flywheel. That helps explain the numbers, but it won't give 911 Turbo and Corvette Z06 owners any comfort. Thanks for the tip, Jake!

Thanks gbb, like I said to Bruce it is really encouraging to see the owner and fan of a competitive brand report all sides of a story and all of the evidence. I like to think about and consider all sides of the evidence as well.

SAE certification is going to be very interesting...

Not to put a dampers on things but these are imports, not official Nissan cars and their software is setup for Janpanese fuel (unsure if that would make any difference).

^^ Good point Footie. If they are correct with the 507hp estimate, i'm not too dissapointed. And to be honest, the extra 27hp + difference doesn't equate to 6 seconds of beating it gave the 911TT and Z06, IMO. I'd like to believe it still has a lot to do with the combination of it's AWD system and the advance DCT tranny.

Sounds like a pretty damn good deal to me. 500+ HP, 0-60 in 3.3 seconds for same price as M3 ($70K). Still, I'm not going to and never will buy a Nissan but it's a damn good value for the money.

Yes 3.3 0-60... most magazines have gotten 3.4 sec 0-60

Nissan always undercuts their actual HP figures....
