2er model change
for those who are financing the new 230i/240i.
how much does 'model change' bug you guys? do you guys ever worry that 2er series is nearing its model change year and perhaps an all-new model will be introduced before your finance period ends? for me, i have considered leasing a 230i then changed my mind to financing after seeing horrible residual value for 2017 models. my only concern is seeing an all new model on the road while i'm still making payments for the car. just wanted to hear your thoughts. |

I'm lucky if I see one other 2er on the road per week. How many do you really see on the road per week that the occasional one with a minor mid-cycle facelift would bother you?

There's always a model change or mid-cycle action in the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, current production quality has been improved since its new launch. New tech or more experience with the build at the plant? Life is full of trade-offs.

BMW model changes are well documented. You should never act "Surprised" that a new model is coming out because the life cycle of cars is rather routine.
So yes, be prepared for the LCI with LED headlights (ermahgerd) in another 12 months. Then be prepared for a new version of the Navigation system (ermahgerd) in 24 months. Then in another 36 months get ready for spy shots of the G-platform 2 series. Such is the nature of life. If you lease, you get to know you'll have the opportunity to get into one of those cars 3 years from now, and if you purchase, then just enjoy your car and realize that another 10 ft/lbs and a newer navigation UI won't change your day to day life or enjoyment of the car as it stands.

When I got the car I planned on keeping it well into the next chassis cycle (and maybe beyond), never mind the minor midlife update of the current chassis. So, nope, no bother here.

I owned my 325i (ED) for over a dozen years, until it reached the point that it was spending more time in the shop than on the road and sucking up more money than my swimming pool was evaporating water.
During that time, my wife leased 4 different 3 series and 5 series, none as good as my 325. In March 2015, I picked up my M235, which is up there with the 325, faster but not quite as much an extension of my body. I plan to drive it for a dozen years or until one of us dies. So I don't worry about LCI's or new platforms. Same with my wife. She is holding up pretty well and a new one would not be worth the break-in period. |

We have owned 35 cars. I have never worried about a new model on the road while I am still paying for my old one. If a new one comes out and you like it buy it if you can. I had 3 Saab convertibles. A 2001. Then the 2004 came out. A total redesign. I bought it. Then the 2008 came out. A refresh. I liked the changes, plus I wanted yellow. So I bought it.
We have an Acura MDX. A 14. Refreshed for 2017. Not worth it,so not buying. I have never said to myself,oh no a new one is out and I am still paying for the old one. If you are that concerned about driving the last design, then maybe you should lease. |

I buy based on what I like. Got an E90 3 series post-LCI as I hated the front of the pre-LCI. Had no problem with it when the new gen came out.
On the 235i, i knew the 240 was just months away. But i loved the 235i, found the options/color combo i wanted, and am not looking back. |

The only real issue that speaks to me is feature envy. I've just got a new 2016 228i, and would really like to have CarPlay, especially if available through Bluetooth. I don't know what after-market options may exist, but I expect they won't interest me too much because of the high degree of integration of the OEM system. This isn't enough of an issue, though, to push me out of this car or make me regret getting the 2016.

If I always thought this way I'd never be satisfied. Car manufacturers have people wrapped around their fingers. Leave you wanting more, then giving it to you 4 years later after buying the latest and best. Whatever you buy, it will be dated by a newer model. The 2 series, first year and current look no different, really.. And why bother? They will be relevant for at least a decade before they start to look aged to the average eye. Take that, buy one for a good deal, with lots of warranty, like an exec. CPO model and enjoy the car for a while. Know that it's a unique model in the car community. I wouldn't feel bad owning a 135i just because the 2 series came out. Still a very relevant and updated model in terms of technology, power, and mod capabilities.

I'd prefer the meat curtain delete even if it wasn't a zero cost option lol.

Having the latest and the greatest is always the desire. To want more is to be human. Some things are retrofitted because we are never satisfied.
