Transmission "Kick Jerk or Slip"

Difficult to describe.
Sometimes when i am driving at a very low speed and take my foot off the gas, the car jerks... it feels as though someone has tapped my rear bumper, its that severe.
Any idea what I am trying to describe ?
Thanks,
Joseph

Transmission downshifting to the first gear. Actually, it is my pet peeve with automatic transmissions. How do you smoothly come to a complete stop?

I guess put it all the way down in Eco pro. On the bright side, engine breaking can make your brakes last longer

It's only the F30, not all autos. Not a problem in our E70 X5 with the same engine and transmission. Also wasn't a problem in my E46 or our previous E53 X5. It's just an odd programming choice for comfort mode.

Eco-pro mode helps a little bit. When I'm in heavy stop and go traffic I switch to it to reduce the head-jerking effect.

Thanks, I see the reason behind that. I have manual anyway, I was just wondering since I felt it every time I had a loaner.

As for engine braking, I do it more when exiting highway by shifting to 4-th and then 3-rd. Approaching a stop light I shift to 3-rd but not not always.

I've felt it as well. My understanding was it was the car shifting up because of its speed but just as it makes the shift up it discovers it's going too slow then shifts right back down again, a mistake a computer would make but not a human

Mine does, every time, in either comfort or eco pro modes. I don't run in sport unless I anticipate needing to pass, so I can't say if it's not smooth coming to a stop in sport.

Not the behavior of my 535i with the 8-speed auto. Comes to a stop without any down changing jerk.

Never had a problem with smooth stops with my long term BMW autos with 5, 6 or 8-speed ZF autos.

Realized my car behaved the same way, but I rarely drive aggressively and I have a rather light foot. I believe my car ECU has learned my driving habits and I no longer feel the jerk nor drag. Or maybe I've gotten used to it.
