recoding to allow current speed limits to be shown in HUD

having rented a M4 in Munich and having the current speed limit shown on the HUD - it was very handy. spoke to BMW Aust and they said there was an issue with reading the speed limit signs on the back of trucks/buses etc. BMW said it was "special" camera, but I wonder if it is just turning it on via recoding.

i believe from reading that you cant just code it on, it actually needs a FSC code to activate

its an enabling (activation) code, its made specific for your car via your vin.
basically its a way for BMW to ensure you cant just "turn it on" via coding
have a google, plenty of info on this on this forum.

Do you mean showing the speed limit in the hud like the posted speed limit? My hud does this so it's just a matter of having drivers assistance Plus. Not sure if you can code it though sorry. You do need the hardware even if you could.

Unfortunately in Aus, we don't have the speed limit HUD enabled in our cars, regardless of what option/feature you have in your car, hence why he is asking if it's possible to code in.

In UK this option is called "speed limit display" and is a £220 cost, approx. I have this on my car and believe it gets the speed limit info from sat Nav data and not by reading the speed limit signs on the road through a camera. The only camera I'm aware of on my car is the reversing camera at the rear. No idea about coding though, sorry.
Cheers,

CH

Do you have the speed limit anywhere?

It's frustrating when a manufacturer can't provide universal experience to all their customers either because of local regulations or liability laws.

Sorry to here its not available as an option. As far as I know, if the hardware is present, it's just a matter of discovering what setting to code. You may want to research it on the coding threads here or engage with someone familiar with coding. Some items are trial and error discovery and this may be one of those.

I did find this -- hope it helps: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1132862

Actually I was told by the dealer due to the inaccuracies (maybe caused by the above conditions), BMW got sued by driver in Australia after having received a speeding ticket, when the speed illustrated was different to the legal limit (driver got a speeding ticket). As such the feature was pulled or disabled. The limitation excuse seems weak from BMW as Mercedes and other manufacturers offer the feature.

It's activated here in Switzerland. It's reading the signs from the camera. I'm 100 percent sure.
I love it and really miss it in the wifes X3.

My car's a late November build (15th-23rd I think) - car arrives tomorrow on the boat, I'll let you know if my cars got the feature when I pick it up.

Cheers!

This is an Australian specific thread, your car has no bearing in our thread.

As previously mentioned, November+ builds now have this feature. And I'm guessing you're car is Nov+.

The latter part of this thread is about if it's possible to activate this feature in the older cars but to this point it seems it can't be done.

Not just software....requires hardware.
