Downpipes Or FMIC
Buying from
http://www.armmotorsports.com/category-s/107.htm Everyone starts somewhere. Now my question is what should I get 1st and how much in labor. (Just a guess) I have a 2008 BMW 335XI. Idk if the downpipes are worth it more or FMIC. Thanks in advance |

I live in Denver co weather is not to bad. It's all in between. In terms of labor work, any estimate on how much? And how much HP I'll be gaining. They claim 25HP for both

Anything on an Xi is going to be a bit more labor than a non xi. I'd go with a FMIC. Just more consistent and cooler IAT's to help from timing pulls.

If your thinking about doing 5" intercooler you probably wont notice a difference. I would go with the 7" intercooler.

^ exactly. Tune or not, FMIC will prevent timing pulls from heatsoak.

The 5" stepped make a difference. I did some before/after logs. The IAT with the stock FMIC would go up to 160°F after a pull in 3r/4th with ambient temperature around 75F, along with some severe timing pulls. With the VRSF 5" stepped FMIC, the IAT would not go over 120/125°F in the same conditions, and no timing pull.

i would get an Intercooler first but since you are looking at a low quality FMIC you are probably off getting downpipes first

I live in Denver and I have dci, jb4, ams fmic, and active auto charge pipe and bov, the fmic imo was a great noticeable difference. My friends cars are all fbo and for some reason my car is faster than theirs, I noticed this when I put my fmic on.. I would go with the fmic ,you wont be disappointed.

Absolutely not true. I have used quite a few of ARM's products on my sons GTI with great success. I have ordered top of the line components for my Audi only to be disappointed when they arrived because of the poor craftsmanship. I will say this much everything I have ordered from this company has been spot on, granted it was for my sons VW but that really should have no bearing on the end product.

When you buy an FMIC, you should really buy the charge pipe too.
The next step after both of those is to get a better cold air intake system than the one that is stock on the car. If you go with a 7" VRSF, you can save money but, you'll be doing some cutting with a Dremmel in order to make it fit most likely. |
