Quantum ECU remapping Birds BMW

A friend of mine has recently taken over SOUTH COAST AUTO TUNING a mobile ECU specialist. The really interesting part of this is he has been trained by Quantum Advanced ECU Software at Birds BMW.

Quantum write the performance ECU upgrades for Birds at their dealership in Iver.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed by the forum moderators to post his details so please feel free to PM me for his details.

Be careful that by posting this you are not helping your friend breach the confidentiality restrictions in the contract that (as Kevin is a knowledgable and savvy person) almost certainly exists between Quantum and Kevin Bird Garages.

The web site does NOT list the latest 335D engines.

A 36bhp increase isn't that good really! I had my 318d taken from 142bhp to 199bhp and that was with an additional warrantee to run alongside the Bmw one.

Spoke to BMW, they said they can only offer a PPK with my model taking it from 184bhp to 200-202bhp? :S

The MPPK gains are modest but the warranty is unaffected. An independent remap can produce higher figures but do your research to see how those figures are achieved.

I can see some offering 230-235 bhp, but not sure going that high would do any good for the engine as most people recommend around 220-225 bhp?

I'm looking at DMS, Ecotune and Quantum remaps for my 335d and would welcome any feedback, either on here or PM if folk don't want to go public.

It's all a question of degrees. Within reason, a 'max' remap may not do much harm if the engine isn't worked hard every day. A car in standard tune may have a shorter lifespan if it's ragged on every journey.

The reputable tuners will operate within sensible limits and will develop throttle and rpm maps rather than crude boosts to fuel rail pressure and turbo boost.

Mine was done by Eco tune and I done plenty of research on the matter. At the end of the day my car gets used at weekends only and I don't rag it around and to be honest the toque comes in so much earlier that there's really no need to rev it anyway. DMS have a 320d that's done 80k and they recon it's been mapped to 250bhp from day one?

The guy who this post is about has quoted me £325, for my 320d to go from 184 to 220 bhp and 380 to 440 torque.

PM me and I'll give you Jason's contact info. I didn't put his details public as I think it breaks the forums advertising rules. Jason is happy for any one to contact him even if it's for just a chat..... however he is quite busy!

Just looking at where you're based and wondering if your Quantum remap was done by someone in the North East who you could recommend? I'm half considering a remap on my 335d but would want to make sure it was done by somebody reputable; I'm in North Yorkshire but the North East is quite easy to get to from where I live!

Was done by a Bloke in Middlesbrough but it was about 4 year ago and I can't see him listed now. If you go on Quantum's website they list all their approved installers
