BMW Manual Transmissions

Excuse me if this has already been discussed. I searched and couldn't find anything relevant.

I have a manual F87 on order to arrive in September and have a question about BMW gearboxes.

I am currently in a loaner 328 MT and am wondering if this is the same gearbox BMW uses for the M2. I'm trying to determine if I should expect the same level of engagement from the clutch and shifter between these two cars.

Any insight would be awesome!

The M2 has the same gear box used in the M3/4 which, IIRC, is not the same gear box found in the 328. I can't speak to differences in feel of the two having not driven a 328.

Even if it were the same model often there are enough subtle differences (pins and pin spring weights, linkage geometry and materials) that change the way it feels from model to model. In general most BMWs have very similar bite points on the clutch though, with long throw shifters and a notchy 1-2.

It's actually slightly different, smaller and lighter than the M3/M4 box.

So why do all the M2/M3/M4 share the same part number for rebuilt transmissions?

M2 6MT P/N is 23007857700
M2/M3/M4 6MT Reman P/N is 23007857701
