F36 - Sunroof
I'm toying with adding a sunroof to my imminent 4GC order. Can anyone who owns one with a sunroof comment on how much headroom they rob please?

Hardly anything, this was my concern when I was getting mine.
I'm 6 foot with quite short legs, the wife who is shorter than me has to have the seat further back when she is driving, so all my height is in my body and I have no issues at all. Unless you are well over 6 foot you'll be totally fine. |

My F32 has a roof, but the seats are set much lower, so it's no problem.

Ah, maybe a problem then! Thanks for the info, I guess the only solution is to track an AUC down and sit in it...

Well I've never banged my head, but yeah, might be worth trying for yourself before you pull the trigger. I don't have mine open too often but I love how it floods the cabin with light. Last edited by Dyl; 07-15-2016 at 09:26 AM.. |

Cheers, how is the soundproofing with it closed? My main reason for adding it would be to add light to the interior, the fresh air on a (rare) nice day would just be a bonus.

Personally I think the M-Sport cars can be quite oppressive inside if you have black leather in conjunction with the anthracite headlining and a glass sunroof does a good job of lifting the cabin ambience IMO. My E92 335i (bought used) had black leather with piano black trim; the original owner had specced active cruise and many was the time I cursed them for not speccing a glass sunroof instead! |

The coupe roofline is a bit lower to the GC. I do definitely sit lower in mine.

I am 6'3" and it was touching my head in the GC and so I have ordered it without, It seemed the roofline was a good 3cm lower.
I believe that the 4 and the GC are identical up to the back of the drivers door and they just carry on the roofline for a further 12cm and so the seating position is the same in both. the F31 seats feel much higher when you get out of one and get into the 4-I think i's because both the car and the seats are 1cm lower but it feels like you are sitting bolt upright in the f31 afterwards even when subjectively you are not. |

The coupe doors are much longer than the GC. So if what you say is correct the GC roof line will dip away much sooner and thus bring it closer the the driver head.

the marketing bobbins says they are identical to A pillar but 4gc roof 2cm higher and then swoops from 12cm further back.
Just passing on my thoughts from sitting in it, I didn't feel GC had less headroom than a 4 and a sunroof took too much out of the roof for someone of my height. |

Yes and you are saying there is less head room.
I am taller than you you and get in a GC every day that has a sunroof and I have never once banged my head on it. You get a coupe with a sunroof and don't bang your head and they are both quoted by BMW as having the same head room. The seats in your car are not lower. All i'm suggesting is that you didn't have the seat in its lowest position. You can't have. |

He was gutted an still thinks the GC would have been a better car. Don't forget a persons height isn't that accurate. You're taller than me. But you might have a shorter torso, which is the bit that counts.

I have a F36 and a sunroof - I love it. I am 5'11" and its fine for me. Aside from the recent very warm weather I use it almost every day either open at the tilt or fully open. Its great and I don't care its a bit noisy, all sunroofs are! Just turn up the stereo.

I checked this weekend...I'm 5'10" and I'd say of standard proportions. With my seat in it's highest position, there is about an inch space between my head and the roof.
I give my boss a lift to work sometimes, he's pretty lanky and 6'4". He's never bumped his head off the roof. Hope this helps. |
