UK VED band changes - April 2017

I've mentioned this in a couple of posts but thought I would put a thread up, especially as many UK people are expecting cars in 2017.

From April 2017, UK VED bands are changing. Effectively all vehicles (except zero emissions) registered from this date will be flat rated at £140pa, with first year tax and premium tax for ALL cars costing over £40k RRP being applied on top.

This means that M2 VED prices will be as follows:

1st year: £1200
years 2-6: £450 (£310 supplement)
year 7 +: £140

I have posted this because many people are unaware of the changes, dealers included. Dealers that are aware are NOT passing the information on to customers (technically they don't have to). I informed my dealer, who then looked it up and said he is going to forget that I told him due to the sales consequences.

£1200 for the first year is hefty.

Might make cars bought before this date more sought after....perhaps.

No, because there is still the first registration tax to pay now, which is £500 for a manual and £355 for a DCT equipped car.

So, it will cost either £700 more or £845 more.

Why the difference? Seems odd, no?

The bizarre situation in Holland is that when you spec DCT on some models, it actually changes the tax band to the extent that it makes the car cheaper than the manual, despite the option being several thousands Euros!

tax on vehicles due to co2 emissions? this sounds like some sort of socialist euro scheme. no wonder people wanted to leave the euro union.

Have you seen the Citroen-Peugeot results for real life fuel economy?

They did real life tests on all of their cars for the sake of transparency and the average, AVERAGE, fuel economy under real-life conditions is a whopping 40% lower than what the sticker says.

That is why I never, ever, believe the advertised mileage, you'll never come close to a stripper car with no seats, no AC, no electronics...

It is shocking but not surprising as people have been complaining for years about the disparity of claimed vs actual mpg,the manufacturers stating that under ideal conditions the figure was achievable, but of course never obtained in the real world.

They're all on the fiddle some way or another,I guess it's just a matter of time before things come to light.
