F31 Touring Powered Boot

Chaps,

Still getting used to my car and noticed that sometimes when I open the boot it lifts automatically (I.e powered) and sometimes it doesn't and I have to physically lift it.

Is this normal?

I think if you press the button without lifting it, it does it automatically, but if you try to lift it slightly it goes to manual.

That's correct press the button and it will raise but try and make it go faster or force it then it becomes a manual job. Or just air kick under the boot if you have comfort access!

Don't forget you can open the glass hatch as well as opposed to having to open the boot. I keep forgetting as I use the foot waggle or button by the drivers door mostly.

Aaahhh that makes sense. A light touch is required...l'll be sure to tell the long haired general 👍 And yes the glass opening section is great, love the practicality and flexibility of the touring to date.

On the odd occasion my boot starts to lift and then stops part way up. Only about once in a month so I'm not bothered but don't know why.
I have comfort access and usually just touch the button on the tailgate.

I normally open mine from the button inside the car or from the fob. Very occasionally, pressing the button inside releases the tailgate but it doesn't open. Never had that happen with the fob.

Ah yes that f**kin' button hidden under the throttle pedal. Why???

My 19 yr old Volvo has it on the door by the, wait for it, door handle

Then there's the wall, fence, car, garage door/roof, kid or "long haired general" that it hits and scratches itself.

Electric bootlid, about as useful as a third armpit and not even a delete option.

You can unjust height in settings in case you have a low garage roof.

It's a bizarre place to put it isn't it. On Mrs R's X3 it's part of the electric window switch panel on the door.

She also gets the Auto Handbrake.......it's not fair

I'd rather keep my mechanical handbrake any day, having said that I very rarely apply it as my car is auto.

It's also worth coding the footwell button to close the boot too, its not enabled by default in the UK like it is on the F10.
