Maintenance and service contracts

My dealer quoted me the following, and it seems kind of high. I'm curious what people have been quoted for the M2.

BMW EVP Services (Platinum Warranty):
Deductible: $50
Terms: 84/70,000
Cost: $6,000

BMW Maintenance:
Terms: 24/50,000 (beyond the factory)
Cost: $3,500

BMW Protection:
- Wheel tire, painless dent removal, windshield and key replacement.
Terms: 49 - 60 mos
Cost: $3,000

Garage List
2016 BMW M2  [0.00]
2015 BMW 228xi  [0.00]
Send me your vin in a PM. And I look into it tomorrow regarding the BMW maintenance and extended program.

For the BMW protection that sounds like a deal to have all of those packages included.

Just curious, is the maintenance and extended program tied to vin?

The odds of 6k worth of repairs between the 50,000 mile warranties expiration and the 70,000 miles that the EVP warranty will cover is pretty much zero. 6k is a ton of money for such a short period of coverage, I would put the money in the bank, the maintenance is probably just as bad if not worse, you would pay $3,500 for 12,000 miles worth of maintenance which for most owners will be an oil change, it is not likely you will go through brakes in less than 50,000 miles, if you think you will I would check the fine print because my guess is they won't be covered anyway. You can probably pick up on my theme so you can figure out I am anti wheel/tire and the other stuff warranty. All together $12,500 is an insane amount of money on a 55k car for any warranty coverage in my opinion. I also am always against buying a warranty for a car that has a warranty. You can buy a warranty at any time, I would wait until your towards the end of the factory warranty to decide and your 12k in the bank will make you feel more comfortable.

Thanks. That is how I feel too. I'm just curious what others have been offered.

If you can get into USAA they have some decent options you can sign on for pretty much anytime. I suspect the M2 will be pretty solid, its made up of proven components with just a few exceptions so I think you'll be pretty safe. I will burn through the manufacturers warranty in less than 2 years so I am betting it will be pretty reliable. I have 212,000 miles on my 06 330i so I believe these cars can go the distance as long as you care for them properly. Doing your own maintenance helps make it pretty affordable.
