Hi all, I have a 2016 F33 (4 series convertible) M Sport and I'm after some answers.

1. Does the convertible have anti-trap Windows?

I ask this because the brochure says yes but my local dealership say no.

2. Are the windows supposed to be able to open and close on the remote key fob?

The standard spec says yes, but mine only go down. The dealership say that the absence of anti trap is the reason why the Windows will only go down not up.

Currently I have my dealership and BMW finance looking into this as there is either an issue with my car or that the brochure is incorrect.

One option that the dealership are proposing is to retrofit comfort access but I am not sure that this will close the windows.

Any knowledge from the forum will be much appreciated.

If the convertible has comfort access, you can raise and lower the roof with the key. This obviously includes the lowering and raising the windows to allow the roof to do its thing.

Not sure about anti trap, but can look into this for you.

All BMW Windows and sun roofs have been anti trap for years IMO. I'd be stunned if the F33 did not have anti trap.

Yes Windows should be able to open and close from the fob. Maybe Chompers is more in the know but I've never had comfort access and respectively holding down open or close on the fob takes all Windows and a sunroof open or closed.

The more common vert questions I see on this are Re the roof.

All f32/F33 have anti trap as standard.
And the should be fully operational up and down from the key fob.
Comfort access allows remote roof raising and lowering.

To retrofit comfort access would be nigh on impossible as the wiring harness is different to a non version. It uses about half a dozen extra aerials around the car/exterior handles are different/key are different/as is the FEM.

There's something wrong with you're car pal, either the windows aren't initialised properly or it's been coded wrong at factory.

Perhaps only slightly relevant but here goes:

Our old 1 series convertible (2010, E88) did not have comfort access. It was possible to OPEN the roof with the key but to close it you had to use the switch inside. If comfort access was soec'd (as a friend of mine had on a very similar car) it was possible to open/close with the key.

The Windows DO have anti trap when closing with the normal window switch. The anti trap is overridden and DOES NOT function when using the roof close button.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: just try the anti trap by sticking a rolled up towel or something in the window - it won't break it.

Thanks Chompers, I am going into the dealership next week to see what their demo convertibles do. The service manager seemed very confident that the Windows don't go up on the key on a convertible and he was certain that this was due to no anti trap (something to do with the rubbers and the retractable roof.

I think the issue is particular to the convertible.

Hopefully BMW finance technical team will be get a definitive answer next week. They are looking into this as well.

Yes, but all that does is allow double click on fob to allow windows to drop for easier access into car.

These BMW Brochures are "misleading" and very often the car does NOT do what the brochure says it should
BMW UK have refunded me on may occasions for this error.
One example IF you specify Active security Pack it deletes the Glove box next to the steering wheel from Extended storage.

Yes you are absolutely correct. I ordered extended storage (option shows the extra compartment next to steering wheel) but because I have driver assist I lose the compartment because that is where the switches are. I've spoken to citizens advice and they are confident that the Windows closing on fob could be misdescription of goods.

Dealer should know that, it is not as if you are the first one. We are several years down the line for the knowledge on extended storage.

Dealers need to get their act together to inform users of what some options do to a build. It is not uncommon for users to tell dealers what is in BMW information, already out in the public domain.

I agree, but surely the configurator can be designed to highlight omissions when building any vehicle. So I think that BMW must accept responsibility too, especially if there is inconsistency in the brochure.

I must say, my dealer has always seemingly known everything, even if not printed/published. He seems to make it his business to find out - probably because it IS his business to find out.

I know they also attend countless training sessions each year, I wonder if others don't always bother to take these seriously?

And if dealers don't know the unusual detail, they can find out. They have access to BMW, seen it happen, so no real excuses.

Reminds me of the time adaptive suspensions were coming into the models, remember asking a salesman (not my dealer) what he thought about the adaptive systems. He said they weren't worth adding. When asked if he had tried them himself, he said he hadn't. Says it all.

I got £170 back from the dealer for that error.

I don't think it'll be long before dealers start allocating sales series ranges to concentrate on. Say 1&2 series team, 3&5 and so on. They have started with 7series and 'M' specialists. The product range is just too big to know every single option/configuration.
