Snap In Phone Adaptor

For our new M4 there is a provision made for a snap in adapter for the phone in the arm rest.

What are the benefits of using this for the price of £170?

Phone is an iphone 6 plus.

Cheers All

Have to say I bought one for our F15 x5 and I hardly use it. Quicker to just plug the lightning cable in to it. I didn't bother with the adapter in the F36 and I just have another cable in there for charging. Cannot say I've noticed any difference in functionality from not having cradle, connected Drive apps work as normal, Bluetooth streaming works as normal. Waste of money it seems now unless I'm missing something but I cannot see value they add now.

I had one in my F10 for my blackberry.

I found the signal was better and didn't drop as much as in my F30 without it.

Apparently you connect to the ariel in the shark fin when you have the adapter thus better signal strength.

I personally miss it.

I had one but didn't really find it useful. Plus, its a pain in the ass getting it in and out when you are sat in the drivers seat.

If you want to try one, grab one off ebay. You can usually pick one up for about £50-£60 used. That way when you are bored of it or realise how crap it is, you can re sell it and maybe get your money back.

Tips - any snap in adapter for the correct phone will fit in your car. It is not model specific. IE, one advertised for a Mini will fit. There are also 3 versions, Basic, Media and Apps/Connected. Get the latter if you can. All the basic one does is give charging capability and external aerial.

Yes I'll second that, I havn't used one since my iPhone 5, I have an iPod Classic wired up to the USB port for music and the snap-in was useful to keep the iPhone 5 on charge as well (seeing as the battery ran out so quickly). The Apps were useful for some things, due to the nature of my work I found a good use for things like Glympse so was handy to split the apps and music between the two devices at the same time. Since the newer iPhones came out I havn't bothered getting a new snap-in, might have a look for a second hand one as Rukka pointed out though, I didn't actually realise they are not model specific and I have a mini as well so might be useful to get one and share between the two cars.

Better to do what I did, all the functionality of the snap in cradle but keeps the phone in view:

If you're asking me, yes it does for web radio, spotify app etc. It works exactly like the snap in adapter just minus the roof antenna connection.

Looking at that pic just reminds me how much better the gloss LCI dash looks - sigh.

(Good mod btw!)

Don't iPhones have the wrong kind of sim profile or something so never actually use the roof antenna even in the cradle...or did I misread that sometime?

Quite possibly, which would make my solution exactly the same as the snap in adapter!
